Hmmm... (based on Motor Trend article of 3,400 lbs)

1. 2008 Viper: 3,400 lbs / 600 hp = 5.667 lbs/hp
2. Ford GT: 3,400 lbs / 550 hp = 6.182 lbs/hp
3. 2006 z06: 3,130 lbs / 505 hp = 6.198 lbs/hp
4. 2006 Viper: 3,400 lbs / 510 hp = 6.667 lbs/hp

How much will this lower 1/4 E.T. compared to the FGT & c6z06?

The FGT's make more power than 550 FWHP in reality, but this definitely is encouraging considering the weight of the 2008 Viper could possibly be even lower than the current car.

estimated by the rags to be same as current car but many have insinuated that the car could come in a bit lighter...maybe just wishful thinking.

I've seen Ford GT's dyno 550rwhp stock. So, the viper would have to clear that mark at 3400 lbs to have a better ratio.

But I don't think power is going to help ET's much anymore. TRACTION is the biggest issue. The car that can put the power to the ground better is the car that will be fastest.

most FGTs dyno ~510rwhp or less once they get hot. There is a big difference once the cars get up to operating temps......that's where those vidoes of them losing the Z06s come from.

yeah, once they are heat soaked the power goes down. But during the first pull or 1/4 mile run, they make a fair amount more power.

Seems like some estimates about there of a 200 lb diet. If so, 3200/600 = 5.33 pounds per HP. Almost 1.5 lb/hp improvement over 2006 Coupe and much better than current z06, running 10.85 on DRs. Yikes!

the C6 Z06 has 3.42 rear gears and vipers have 3.07 rear gears. i would assume that the 2008 viper will still be equipped with 3.07 rear gears? that being the case i bet a 1/4 mile race for the new viper will at best result in a tie with the C6 Z06. now on a road course the viper should beat the C6 Z06. the top speed of 198 mph will still go to the C6 Z06 as a result of its superior aerodynamics.

The quarter should be close, but I'll take the 08 Viper Coupe for top speed honors. Torque and frontal area also impact top speed and I think the new viper will beat the vette in this area. It would be a fun race to watch.
