i have a set of 18x13 wheels with drags on the VCA classifieds and got this email. dont these guys know its an old scam? anyway be careful guys.maybe i should agree and take his money but check will probably bounce.

Hello

Thanks for the mail.I will take it for $1300 cause I
really want to have it.For the pick up,have arranged
for that, my shipping agent will come for the pick up
as soon as the payment is settled, I just contacted my
client in the US who is going to make the payment for
me as he is owing me some money and he said he wants
to pay with cashiers check.I am not an American so you
guys know the most preferable option.
My client will be sending the check of $5,000 so i
expect that the excess funds on it be sent back as
this will be used for shipping arrangement. As soon as
i get your full name and address including your
contact number to which the check will be issued and
sent then i will immediately instruct my client to
send you the check.
I look forward to trustworthy transaction with
you, expecting your mail the soonest. and also tell me
if i can count on you to send back the balance or not.

Thank you once again.

stay away. my father has his hardtop up for sale here in the classifieds & got this:

We are interested in buying your above mentioned OEM Hard Top at advertised rate of $2,000. Hard Top will be picked up from your location for onward shipping to London. Cost and modalities of shipping to be born by us.

Payment for the purchase is by check through a debtor in US. The debtor owes us higher than our purchase. He will therefore be sending you a check for $7,000 to cover the cost of our order, as well as the Shipping costs.

On receipt of the check, you will cash and deduct the cost of our order .The balance you will send as we would instruct you to the Agency that will ship the Hard Top to us. If this arrangement suites you fine, please send us your address where to send the check, as well as the name to be on it. Also send us your phone number for easy communication.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.

Best Regards

MR. CAMPBELL MIKE

Mr. Campbell & Mr. Smith are probably the same person

It's an old scam now, but thanks for the heads up!
The red flag is with the guy being out of the country, and the deal looking too good to be true (because it always is too good to be true). :(

I had a similar situation with the 18" OEM wheels I had in the classifieds.... I received an e-mail that the guy would take them for $2200... but I had to cash their "check" for $9,000. Then send them the wheels to England with the difference....

I emailed back that my price would have to be $5200 if I had to go through all that..... I gave them my office address...... I didn't hear anything for over a month.... well one day a check showed up for $5200????

It was a personal check of someone's.. from Texas.... I had already sold the wheels during the intervening 4+ weeks.......

Crazy.

Got the same from my VCA classified ad, from a dot UK email addy and a Campbell Mike (Mike Campbell I guess, but I guess his last name could have been Mike, LOL)was the sender. The ***** (as I addressed him in my reply) wanted me to ship my QuikLift to England. I'd told him sure I would readly do that when he came to pay CASH, AND pick it up (as the ad stated). I closed by saying have a wonderful trip over, see you soon *****! Never heard back.
