Viper AC Compressor info needed.

I have a 2000 ACR with comfort group. My ac compressor is out. I've been told I need a Nippendenso 10PA15C. I just happen to have a new in the box Nippendenso 10PA17C. Will it work? A buddy told me it will. It has the correct pully etc. He's an AC guy and said something about the 17 has more displacement and my system may be more critical or something I didn't understand. What do you think. Should I try the 17?

How do you know the compressor is bad?

My ac friend put his guages on it and attempted to fill the system. He manually made the compressor come on but it wasn't pumping. He said he thinks the valves are out. He does ac work for a living, altho not necessarily automotive. But he knows automotive well, so I feel pretty confident when he believes the compressor is out that it most likely is. Your thoughts??

The compressor won't come on if the system is not filled or if the pressure shut off valve is open. My guess is, he probably bypassed the pressure shut-off, you might want to ask him.
