With all the talk about z06's, i was wondering if anyone here ever ran up against a ZR1 stock or modified. I will tell you that with my moderately modified ZR1 I have smoked my share of R/T's. never raced a GTS. But now that i own one i will do my own comparison as soon as the GTS is broken in. BTW what is the best mod to do on a GTS without tearing into the motor?
Thanks

In my opinion, the best mod to do without going into internals would be K&N's and smooth tubes.

I have had 9 zr1's and 1 zo6 and 5 vipers and I can tell you the zr1 and the zo6 are about equal I have run 12.20's in my zr1 stock and my zo6 stock but I have run 11.60's and 70's all day long in my gts's stock. With nothing but a set of drag radials my 97 gts went 11.41 at a vca event a couple years ago at buds creek maryland.

I raced a couple of ZR1's so far in my 1996 GTS... one was a 1993..... on highway runs, I will killing him... not even close...

I was at the dragstrip talking with someone running a 1991 ZR1, he had intake and no exhaust..... heh, very loud... he was pulling 12.40's @ 114 MPH..... that night I pulled a 12.08 @ 120.6....

I also raced a highly modded 1990 ZR1 on the highway, it was very close, I only had him by 1 car to 140MPH.... on motor this ZR1 pulls 118 MPH trap speeds.... he also had a dual stage 300 shot of NOS.... that he wasn't using..... otherwise, he would have smoked me....

thats my experience so far with the ZR1's...

Hi Guys,

If you ever happen upon a 95 White ZR1 in the Austin area DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! It's likely SW and his car will smoke 99% of even the highest modded Vipers. Car runs 10.4's on motor with 701 HP and an 8000 rmp red line. He's treated a couple of big HP vipers a lesson or two. Smile and drive on!

I had a gorgeous Polo/Biege 94 ZR-1 that I sold to buy the 99 ACR. The ZR-1 was an awesome automobile by any measure. I still deeply regret having to sell this marvelous piece of technology. The Z06 is definitely a winner, but the ZR-1 .... well it's just special. I wish I'd been born rich instead of bald!

I've got a '95 White ZR1 (not the one mentioned previously) and a '00 GTS. They are similar, but different. Both have sports car ride and handling, both are fast, both needed rear end gear changes, in my opinion (4.09 and 3.55 respectively), both needed exhaust mods to sound "right". The Vette is a little more refined. The Viper is a brute. The biggest difference is the Vette LT5 loves to rev. The Viper V10 is a torque monster! Both engines are built like a rock.

As far as which is quickest/fastest, the edge goes to the Viper. But it's close enough that the driver will make the difference.

I thank the Lord regularly that I am fortunate enough to be able to own both!

Hi Guys,

SW's car is sweet and it's so dang tricky. If you met him at Saturday night street races you'de probably take him on since the thing barely lumps at idle and is so quiet. You be walking back to your car thinking you got a sucker on the line for a $100 bucks. BUT, when you're trying to keep the tires hooked and then short shifting at 5500 rpm he's dumping the clutch and then screaming upto 8 g's. You don't see anything but that big white ZR1 bu^^ going away at light speed as you realize that you're the SUCKER that just bought him dinner! Oops! I realize that there are VERY FEW ZR1's of this caliber but I think any right minded Viper owner would drop his brand allegiance to own this sucker. It's BAAAAADDDDD!
