I'm Installing a battery maintainer, I can't decide if it should be hard wired directly to the battery and leave the pig-tail in the wheel well or to connect it to the posts under the hood? What would be the most convenient location for easy disconnect. Cheers

You can do it in the engine area. Connect the positive terminal to the positive and the negative to the frame. I'm not sure what brand you have but I will take a picture of mine hardwire to give you an idea. I'll do it tonight when I get home. Good luck.

Same place you jump the car from - the positive post is very clearly marked with a red cap just in front of the driver's footwell in the engine compartment, and the large bolt on the sill area directly below it is a fine ground.

And, incidently, the word is "where", not "were".

I also use the cigarette lighter for a battery tender. It is so easy and you don't have to lift the hood. I highly recommend it. :2tu:

I just bought a battery tender a few weeks ago and have yet to hook it up. Did you guys who used the cig ligher have to do/purchase anything special? I'm curious and think I want to go in this direction.

You need a cig lighter plug like the ones used to deliver power to an accessory like a radar detector.

When you hook it up to the cigarette lighter are you running the cord out the driver's door and shutting the door on the cord?

open the window and run it out that way.

Thanks! I was at the International motorcycle show in Cleveland today and there was a batter tender booth setup. They had the adapters there and I picked one up. I'm glad this post came up or I would have ignored their booth.

Thanks again.

Actually according to the Viper manual, it's a CIGAR lighter :) I have mine routed there too, my tender came with a quick connect plug with three connectors, inc. one for the lighter.
