Optima Red Top 75/35. No more mess.

I spent 4 hours cleaning up my battery tray and repainting it, including all the fastners in that area. It was a rusty, corroded mess in there.

There was no way I was putting my old battery back in or getting another one that could leak. The Optima fit in like a glove and is virtually leak proof. It looks like brand new now.

I have had the best luck with the Delco and Interstate group 78 battery. I recommend you replace the battery every three years. The dry cell battery like optima is really only good for race cars (because of its contruction), If discharged it does not like being charged at a high rate.

Dan,

I disagree with you, I run Optima, not only in my race cars, but in all my street vehicles since many years (the oldest battery is going on 8 years)and never had a single problem.
Even a regular red top can go through many full discharge/recharge cylcles that will kill a "regular", non-deep cycle battery.
As for a high rate of charge, evey single battery has n optimum rate of charge (amps/hour)based usually on the size,CCA,temperature and degree of discharge.

Do you have to modify the tray for the Optima Red Top 75/35or will it fit right in?

Optima but call them first for current models, amps and case sizes. I went into Autozone and a 75/35 Red Top was on the shelf. This is what I was told to buy. As I was taking it to the front counter, I noticed another 75/35 with the exact same size outside case but it had more amps. It was $10 more but of course I bought it. If I didn't catch it, I never would have known.

Many have had clearance problems getting the posts to fit in. Don't cut them. A bottle jack will modify the clearance without any worries.

Another alternative is a recent post I read. Someone said Optima has a new model out with same amps but smaller case size that will fit right in.

Starting a car in Southern California may not require quite as good a battery as Michigan.

Optima may live a long comfortable life in a room temperature part of the country.
The starting drain and high current recovery charging problem, if there is one, may not ever happen to a car from the south or a car that lives in disuse all winter.

Just a thought.
