I just used one of those adjustable ones that I picked up at NAPA for $12. It worked just fine.

The stock diameter of the piston is 3.995" and the bore size is 4 inch.

the year matters!

97-99 the piston size is 3.997 and 00-02 it is 3.995. also, the rods are different. why is this significant? put in a 99 Gen II piston in an 01 and your piston to cyl wall clearances are too tight for a forged vs. a cast piston.

so don't do this.
