What\'s your Cylinder Index?

Since Henry Cone has opened the door of masculinity and vehicle choice with his post re: Mini Press Conference perhaps we can take this debate to an even higher level as Viper owners.

Cylindar Index, as we have defined it, is the total number of cylinders owned. We started with autos, but at the time I didn't have a Viper and they (the Cone's) therefore had a net +10 advantage. They then bought another Viper so I had to change the rules. The current formula for Cylinder index is as follows:

Cylinders of all vehicles owned + Cylinders of all boats owned + Cylinders of all lawn equipment owned + Cylinders of any other type (aircraft, models, etc.)= Standard Cylinder Index (SCI)

My current Cylinder Index (CCI) is:

Vehicles:
Viper 10
BMW 8
Suburban 8
Vette 6 1954 and it's for sale so don't give me any flak

Boats:
Mastercraft 8

Lawn Equipment
Mower 4
lil mower 2
Weedeaters 4
Edger 2
Chainsaw 2
Blower 2
Hedger 2
Schredders 4

I personally don't think small displacement cylinders should get the same weight, but for now they do and I'm winning (in a two family grudge match to the garage floor) with a non corrected index of 64. Any suggestions would be appreciated. There may even be a better matrix such as cpc (cost per cylinder) or hpc (horsepower per cylinder) - but I can't imagine having to put my weedeaters on the dyno...

Re: What\'s your Cylinder Index?

I put my **** eater on the dyno last year after Tim The Tool Man Allen rewired it for more horsepower. I think it suffered from heat soak because it only put out 1 HP. This year I am going to put some K & N filters and smooth tubes in it to see if I can get another .1 HP.

Re: What\'s your Cylinder Index?

We've been using the household "Cylinder Index" as a measure of how much Tim the Tool Man Taylor "guyness" was around the house. And yes, our friend and new Viper owner (and new Viper Club menmber) currently has us beat. Of course, he started this and claims to own the rules so he should be able to win.

Our current "Cylinder Index" can be computed as follows:

Viper #1 - 10
Viper #2 - 10
Dodge Ram 3500 Sport Cummins dually - 6 x 1.5 = 9 (superchargins gets a multiplier of at least 1.5 though I think that is should be 2)
Volkswagen GTI VR6 - 6
Chainsaw - 1
Blower - 1

Total Household Cylinder Index - 37

Of course it can be argued that any vehicle that is in your house counts whether or not you really own them. Since Jeff's Viper and Corvette are in our basement we can add 16 points to our cylinder index and subtract it from his. Thils leavee us at 53 and him at 48. So we still hold the lead in spite of his lawn equipment collection....

How about it - who is the king of the cylinder index in the Viper club. My personal bet is the Fess's....

Re: What\'s your Cylinder Index?

Ok, so are you counting current vehicles owned, or all vehicles ever owned...

Let's see here, I'm sure I can beat everyone here...

95 RT/10 = 10
96 GS Vette = 8
88 BMW 750IL = 12
97 BMW M3 = 6
99 Sebring C/V = 6
94 Explorer = 6
95 TBird = 8
97 Jetta = 4
95 Vette = 8
95 Miata = 4
01 Neon = 4
97 Miata = 4
96 Miata = 4
91 Miata = 4
92 Miata = 4
90 Saab 900S = 4
90 Saab 900T = 4
92 Saab 900S = 4
95 626 = 4
96 CE Vette = 8-8=0 (Engine Missing
smile.gif

99 Stratus = 4
95 K1500 = 8

That's a current list, let me know if I need to update it to include past cars (including such strange mixtures as a Northstar equipped Fiero V8, etc).
All in all, it puts me up to 120 without getting into the Lawn Equipment

To be fair, they are all my cars, no one else owns them. However, most of them are for sale and were purchased as such as I just started buying wholesale about 3 months ago (I learned how to buy, now I NEED to learn how to sell

Re: What\'s your Cylinder Index?

Do they have to be in vehicles?

I own a lot of v8 engines, in fact, 14 of them not to mention my cars.

I also have a Flymo!

Does anyone know what that is!

Re: What\'s your Cylinder Index?

Okay, this is already getting out of control - surprise, surprise!! I think that I need to define the rules a little better. Let's try this:

1. Only cylinders that are used in internal or external combustion engines count (no air compressors).

2. Only personal cylinders count. No counting business use or business owned cylinders. This is especially true if you are selling cars. That should take care of Pimperton....

3. Supercharged (or turbocharged) engines get a CI (Cylinder Index) multiplier of 1.5 (arbitrarily determined by me, subject to discussion or bribe).

4. They have to be in a runnable condition. No counting engines out of cars even if they are complete. No counting junkers in the back yard. You have to be able to demonstrate the engine running (make lots of noise with it??) if the Cylinder Index authorities were to come to your house.

So let's try this again under these rules. Who has the largest Cylinder Index??

Re: What\'s your Cylinder Index?

Viper GTS- 10
F150- 8
Caravan- 6
Acura Legend- 6
sailboat- 4
outboards- 4
chainsaws- 3
John Deere- 2
generator- 2
backup generator- 1
mower- 1
blower- 1
brush cutter- 1

If I put a "Type R" sticker on my Honda generator, can I get a higher index?

Re: What\'s your Cylinder Index?

I am one to fully support the super/turbo charging multiplication factor of at least 1.5
'Boost is good.'
93 viper 10
90 vette 8 x1.5
88 vette 8 x1.5
83 tt regal 6 x1.5
72 vette 8 x1.5
71 chevelle 8
94 truck 8
99 denali 8
00 honda mc 1
00 honda 4x4 1
With the drivable vehicles and supercharging factor these come to 81 cylinders. With just a little more garage space I think that I could crack the awsome 100 cylinder barrier.

Re: What\'s your Cylinder Index?

Dern. I wasn't expecting Henry to chop me at the knees with the location rule mod. I'll accept the 1.5 multiplier for superchargers/turbos. I do not approve of the phrase "personal cylinders" and would recommend that we find a new descriptor for "blowers". I don't want anyone getting credit they didn't earn. BTW by "blower" is manufactured by Echo and runs on gas and 2 cycle oil.

The stickers on the generator will add to another type of index... but more on that in a few weeks.

1. 1997 Viper GTS 10
2. 1995 Hummer Wagon 8
3. 1991 Mercury Capri Conv 4

Re: What\'s your Cylinder Index?

I forgot my pressure washer +2 HA!

and I will keep searching the house until the Cone's are defeated!! Even with their silly "in the house" rule modification...

Maybe I should buy some RC cars?
