I think that's what you call a dealer trade for a vehicle with an open MSO (Manufacturer's Statement of Origin). It's done done all the time. Look on the sales document and you'll also probably see an "advertising fee." That pays for the national inventory database which makes it easier to match buyers (like you) with just the right vehicle.
