Thanks Joseph but I don't have either a roll cage or the harness bar. So, I would need something else to mount the camera to. I've seen these mounts last time I was at the track. I like them a lot, but don't know if I'm going to be doing enough tracking to justify the bars and thus the mount.

Dean, How do they mount to the car and the camera? I need it by Saturday, so I would need to ship next day.

It bolts to the OEM passenger side seat belt retractor. Only a little of it is visible on the rear package shelf and it puts the camera at eye level.

Does it work if I have a passenger too? And what about larger cameras. The digital camera I plan to use is bigger than most of your smaller 8mm VHSC cameras.

I'm thinking about just using a tension rod (the kind used for shower curtains) and then strapping my tripd to it. Anyone know if this will pass the race tech inspection?

Dean, Do you have any pictures of the mount installed? Thanks

I have GTSDean's camera mount in my '96 GTS. I installed it a few years ago, but if I remember correctly, it was a little bit of a chore. I had to buy a special tool to loosen the seat belt anchor after removing some of the bolster behind the seat. That being said, it is a very solid mount capable of anchoring all sizes of cameras. I would suggest going to a camera store to get some type of quick release attachment for it, otherwise it is a bit of a PITA to attach the camera. Sorry I don't have any pictures of it.

I've searched my drive, but don't have any pics. I'll get some this evening. The only tool not normally in the average Joe's toolbox is a #50 Torx bit for the belt retractor bolts.

I like the suction cup mounts as they can be mounted inside on the windsheld or outside almost anywhere. Mounting the camcorder to the side helped me with autocrossing and seeing where I am apexing on the track. It's also amusing to mount it facing backwards in order to watch those vette's chasing you.
Some tech inspections require a teather so that if it does get loose it will not fly around and end up under your brake pedal or worse.

Pics & Install of GTS Dean Video Camera Bracket

I've got one. Works very well with DV, hi-8 or similar size camcorders. Not hard to install the bracket and really easy to R&R a camcorder.

Used it for Silver State and plug the mics into it. A little paper shim and you can tape the spedo on high speed runs - if you keep your right hand low on the wheel
