Will the GEN I and II\'s fall apart???

I copied this quote from the gen III forum, they are having a my car is better and more expensive thread; "When panels and door don't line up properly after a year or so, there is definitely a problem." It did make me wonder if the bodies will hold up over time though, will our fit and finish get progressively worse?

Yes, eventually it will. Given time a mountain will be reduced to a grain of sand. Enjoy what you have, take care of it and don't worry about it.

Our panels didn't line up from the factory. They aren't getting worse. Just drive.

I've never had someone come up and talk about my misaligned panels. A lot of people say how sweet it is.

Part of having a hand built car put together with admiration and human touch...unlike the vette and other such mass produced cars with "straight lines"

It wasn't a problem for them 5 years ago. Some of them are only trying to cope with their purchase. Some aren't. Generally the satisfied owners (the ones not coping)don't bother to knock someone else's car, they just go on & on about how great theirs' is. That's the kind of spirit that makes me second guess myself, not someone telling me how dumb I am for owning a 10 year old car. Tell me about your car!

Theirs' will be 10 years old in 9 more years. That's what it's really all about, and it's what they are trying to cope with, but they may not understand how consumerism is ruining their moral fiber. I've owned a few new vehicles, and two months after every purchase I had a used car.

Should have bought one that way instead of new; wind up in the same place with some extra gas money.

Not too much later I discovered that more goes into making a person than salary & what they can afford to flash. That's the second part they are trying to tell you.

I wonder how many of them spent their gas money on the car?

The fit of Gen2 body panels is done with shims. These shims aren't just falling out while you drive! There may be some displacement, but by the time that happens, you will have had years of enjoyment. And they can be readjusted, I think.

YES!!!!

<<<<-------ESPECIALLY when ran into concrete poles!

These cars will surprise you.....they are built pretty well, albeit simple. I personally think the bumpers will deteriorate faster then the rest of the car. I know materials have come a long way, BUT what falls off old caddys first. BINGO > the taillight urethane/plastic surround.. Hopefully the care we give these cars will help them last for a long time

All cars "fall apart". It all depends on....

1. How you drive them
2. What you modify
3. The obvious, how much you drive it
