WTB: 1999 Black RT/10

Been shopping for over a year now, and am ready to buy. Been overseas since February 2003, but am scheduled to be back in the States in mid-July.

I'm looking specifically for a 1999 Black RT/10 with black or cognac interior, in that order. I would prefer black, but will consider cognac.

High mileage doesn't bother me, and in fact I prefer it as I plan to drive this car until the wheels fall off, so I'd rather not pay a low mileage mark-up because I will be running up the odometer immediately.

I will also consider 2000 models (same specs), but the price would have to be in line with the 1999's because the '99 is actually more appealing to me than the '00 due to the forged internals. But if the person is in a hurry to sell, and is willing to take a hit on the selling price, I'll consider it.

Existing Dodge extended factory warranty on a '99 I'll happily pay for, as they can no longer be purchased.

My price ceiling is $42K, declining based on condition and mileage of the car, unless there is a warranty, for which I'll pay the value over my price ceiling.

Darn, for a second there I thought I knew the whereabouts of a car for you. A bone stock '00 black on black RT/10, perfect in and out, the paint is like a mirror. But the owner wants $53K for it firm. It is a low miles car though, I believe only about 4,900 original miles.

I've seen 3 as I described go for under $42K with 20Kish miles, and that was within the last few months. The one currently listed in the VCA Classifieds sold for under $40K, but it had 60K miles.

I don't think my price is unreasonable at all.

That looks like a nice car. Lots of the time, mid to higher mileage Vipers are some of the strongest running cars.

How about a 2000 black RT/10, both tops, black interior, 17,000 miles, local car just traded in today on a silver SRT10 Ram truck. You may could get it for about $45,900 before he starts advertising it. Great financing too. Ringgold Chry/Dodge 706-935-2328, ask for Mike Robbins.

Thanks for the info. For a 2000, that's a good price, but I plan to supercharge the car eventually, and I'll want to change the cast pistons for forged. That's my main turn-off for 2000 models, because it will be an added expense that I won't have to worry about with a '99.

I'll still consider it. Anyone know off the top of their heads what changing cast pistons to forged would cost for a 2000 RT?

At this time of year, yes. In the winter it would have been easy.

One in the VCA classifieds sold for $39K, but it had 60K miles on it. I was only willing to offer $37.5K

I've seen three 2000's priced under $46K. Taking into account the normal annual depreciation rate, and assuming their asking price isn't concrete (they usually aren't), that still brings my offer price directly in line with current market conditions.

A '99 black/tan w/ 20K+ miles just expired on eBay. Bids only went as high as $42,100.00 but it was below reserve, so it didn't sell. It's back up now. We'll see what happens during round 2.

It would have been easy LAST winter. This coming winter it will not be so easy. We WERE in a recession. We WERE in a market where those with more money than brains dumped their Gen 2 cars because they could care less about losing an extra 10,000-15,000$. They just wanted to change up to have the latest SRT and that kind of money was chump change to some. Those times are over and there are no Gen 2 cars being produced and there is a growing market for those who want them. By these comments I do not mean to insinuate that anyone who bought an SRT has no brains, I bought one too. My comment was about guys who gotta be the first on the block with the latest and don't car about how much they lose when they flip.
