Removing cats for on road use is illegal. There are a number of prior threads on this subject.

And you never break the speed limit.... right....................

To original poster, there really isnt a huge increase in sound with Hi flow cats vs stock and a minor power increase. If all cats are removed ,then the car has a mean bark ,very loud at high rpms and makes a decent power increase. If not for sound or power I would still remove at least the secondaries to help with the heat. Get rid of all four and the car is nice and cool.

My secondary cats have been deleted on my 2006 coupe. Little louder but I like the sound. Hard to say on HP unless you have a before and after dyno. Butt dyno -I would say a small increase. As MikeR said-helps with the heat.

Wouldn't a high-flow cat do about the same thing? Anybody know the length of the secondary cats? I assume they are in the side sills just ahead of the stock mufflers, right?

Its really easy to get rid of the secondary cats. No Cutting required.... Simply unbolt the pipe that has the cats in it. Pull up a compfy stool. Take a long steel rod that is sharpened like a chisel. Hammer the guts out of the secondary cat. I used a long needle nose pliers and a set of mechanical fingers to pull the guts out. The secondaries area a metal substrate cat and the primaries are ceramic. Bolt the pipe back up to the car, and VOILA! no secondary cat.

Because you merely took the guts out of it, The pipe isnt compromised and it looks stock still. I bought two converter assemblies off of EBay and from list memebers. I kept my originals as originals, and one set I gutted the secondary cats, and the other I gutted everything.

I have had no issues in 1000 miles with the gutted secondaries. I have the MOPAR performance exhaust on my car w/o the crossover.

Getting caught by a federal agent for an unauthorized removal of cats may result in consequences far more serious than a speeding ticket. To my knowledge, there is no "Cat" Clinic where you just send in $79.00 and a lawyer handles the matter. Discussing a federally prohibited activity on a public chat area is not the most sensible thing to do. On the other hand, there will always be people who play lotto with their money and their freedom.

A while ago I smogged my car with the secondary cats removed....it was super clean on the machine.

Also the secondary cat is a high flowing 2.5" metal substrate, so you wont gain much power by removing it but you will loose some heat and it will be just a touch louder.

No one will ever know that you pulled the secondary cat out...you cant see with the side sills on, so who cares what it looks like....why waste the time and destroy a perfectly good metal substrate cat?

I wouldn't think twice about pulling that secondary cat out.

The factory primary and secondary cats are a little longer than the Random Techs, but they are bigger around. If you open them up to 3" I bet they flow better than the Random Techs.

In fact Final GTS, Daniel Lesser started a thread on this topic a long time ago, and I had it book marked however the link wont work and when I tried to search for the thread it appears to have been deleted...he recently started another thread looking to buy secondary cats You might want to give him a call...

Bob, You hit the nail on the head. There are some people out there with more money than brains and they will spend a fortune to get their get bout of jail card. Guys, Why not just change over to a set of Hi Flow 3" Metal Substrate Cats from Random Technology and be legal.

Actually the law states that removal or modification, including replacing the factory CATs with an aftermarket like the Random Tech is illegal.

The secondary factory CAT is far better then the crap that Random Tech sells. You should cut off the secondary CAT and make it a 3" inlet/outlet and put it in place of the primary CAT.
