I am in the market to buy a Viper 2002 RT, but with these gas prices I am a bit hesitant. I live in MD and the prices for high grade are around 4.50 a gallon. Purchasing the viper is not the problem. Gasoline, maintenance, and insurance will be brutal. I think I might just wait a while and continue driving my Toyota pickup :drive:

I have GMC Serra 5.3 4x4 and my Viper gets better mileage than it does. I usually average 16 mpg with the Viper better on the highway, but it does use premium.

Why wait? This is a pretty good time to buy a Viper. Although I’m sure you’d like to drive it every day, realistically you’ll probably won’t. More than likely it will be weekends and during nice weather. Therefore, gas shouldn’t set you back too much. Not to mention, it is a byproduct of owning such a wonderful vehicle. By the way, it’s fun just to drive it to the gas station. Good luck with your decision.

You know that when gas prices come down by 50 cents or so, insurance and maintenance won't really change any, right?

10,000 miles per year at 16 mpg is 625 gallons. If gas goes up another dollar, the $625 extra in gas will still be less than or about the same as insurance.

If you like the car buy it.....if you do and drive it you probably won't let gas prices bother you.

Just sayin'

You can't put a price on this level of enjoyment and gratification. If the cost of gas is going to be a considertion on whether you buy a Viper......you just may not be ready. Good luck with your decision!

If you're holding off from buying a viper cause of gas prices you obviously can't afford it. Do yourself a favor and hold off a few years till you can.

I wouldn't let that stop you! I'm sure it won't even get 10K miles a year on it, so you're probably talking no more than $400 extra of gas annually. I can assure you, those $400 will be the best you've spent...get the car now!

I'm in oil and gas so when gas prices go up, I'm happy.

I find this hard to believe.

Anyways yeah if your worried about gas prices don't buy a Viper, buy a smart car.... oh wait they get about the same.... I have seen 20+ hwy in my gts, and 100mpg going down hill with the wind at my back clutch pushed in motor turned off... I assume....

Corvette's get really good gas mileage:2tu:

You put 10,000 miles on your Viper? I think I have maybe put 1000 on it in 3 years.

$4.00 per gallon is cheap. Try running C16, it is up to $22 per gallon. It especially ***** to use 5 gallons of gas in 3-5 runs down the track.

You buy a VIPER, expect to pay for the gas. If you're worried about gas $$ buy a Fiat 200. It all comes with the territory. Sure the VIPER is a bit heavier on gas but it depends on how hard you drive too.

The only time you'll frown is paying for the gas.The rest of the time you will be smiling in your Viper.:drive:

I can see TooHot4U's point. It goes beyond paying extra money at the pump. It's nothing more than the old shell game where people are getting ripped off by those middle eastern oil companies. There is no reasoning behind the steep increase in price other than greed. Our stupid politicians still don't get it and will not pass laws to allow domestic drilling of our vast reserves.

As for me, I'm driving my GTS whenever I get a chance because it's just too much fun to let sit in the garage in spite of those greedy *&^%$.

Donald Trump for President (LOL)

If you're worried about insurance call and get a quote... My '99 ACR is cheaper to insure than my truck and wife's suv, and I'm 24. Also collision comes off in the winter making it even cheaper.

You also have to consider how often you'll be driving it when you think about fuel prices. I'll probably do no more than 3,000 miles a year, so with an average of 15mpg, and say $6 a gallon, you're looking at $1200. If instead you had a Prius, got 40mpg, paid $5.5 a gallon, drove the same 3000 miles, you would be shelling out $421.5, so really at worst your actual cost is less than $800.
