+1 for Daytona. It is central to plenty of opportunities for tourism, track time, and for gear-heads (Roe Racing for example).

Only problem with Daytona is it's probably the single most expensive track to rent. Last I heard BEFORE the repave it was $25k/day. When the VOI was in Orlando they held the track events @ Sebring, I'm sure cost was the main factor as it's less then 1/2 that.

I put my vote on Virginia International Raceway and we could drive through the "dragon" at deals gap on the way. Nothing like a ton of vipers on the snakiest highway in the country.

Marv, the President of the VCA was asked this question when he spoke at the SoCal Beach run last week.

While he was vague on the location of the event, he said they were working ******* it already, and were narrowing down the choices.

No decision was mentioned, but I got the impression they are looking for a great bang for the buck location that would appeal to the majority of owners.

Everybody wants VOI to be located near to them to make the drive the shortest, but the avid owners want the drive to be longer and more interesting, as that often becomes one of the most interesting parts of attendance, and perhaps bonds owners together just as much as the event itself. (Personal observation).

As for me I can remember much more vividly driving home at triple digit speeds with fellow Viper owners than what I had for lunch at the track.

I am sure they are also reading this thread to get the pulse of the ViperNation.

I agree Paul, I have some pretty good memories of the trips to and from VOI's, like flashing lights behind someones Viper. I m not going to say who but he drives a yellow SRT vert, number 39 I think :)

Gets my vote! I'd have to figure out how to take a bike trailer too, hit the dragon with the viper and a bike.

Rest assured, it will be east of Salt Lake City. I just hope it is close enough that I can drive and not ship my car but.... whatever it takes :2tu:

Clint- That was probably not one of my better moments, but I have not been stopped since that trip to Vegas VOI!

Article in recent Autoweek mentioned that Pikes Peak is scheduled to pave the final sections and there will soon be no more dirt to deal with.

If this is to be completed prior to the next VOI, that would be a cool thing to do. "Vipers storm the Peak!"

If they are not thinking about doing a VOI there, maybe the club should schedule a special event in the area.

I have run lots of Drag strips, driven my share of road courses, and slithered my way around lots of cones, but the Peak might be some thing unique and special.

Paul;

Ha! Ha! East for you is still West for everyone else. Pikes Peak, I look at it every morning out of the front window. Will be cool once it gets fully paved. Would be a fun event, but not sure Colorado Springs is VOI worthy just yet. My vote is Moterrey or Kansas City, did I just say Kansas City? Man we must be hard up for a VOI. Actually those blokes in KC will probably put on one hell of an event. Can't wait. Now if I can just win the lotto, I could take delivery of my 20th Anniverary GEN V at VOI12, I can only dream about, but not order.

I'll put in my vote for Road America! That is an amazing venue....doesn't hurt that its only 45 minutes away from me, too!

In past years, Regional Presidents were encouraged to make a bid to host the upcoming VOI's.

It takes a lot of local manpower, organization and knowledge of what your area can offer to pull off a successful VOI.

In Utah the driving lunch to Park City with reserved parking on Main street and the local fire department providing a ladder truck to take a group picture was a great example, as well as reserving the winter Olympic Training Facility to host a dinner where attendees could don ice skates and circle the World Class Olympic skating venue while others learned how to play curling while sipping on fine wine and nibbling on foods from many different countries. During this event Dodge revealed their spectacular Challenger Drag Pack, and fired up that open exhaust V-10 drag engine inside the facility with great fanfare and gusto.

The ability to have a first class 5 star hotel, directly across from a less expensive sister hotel allowed attendees to choose how much luxury they wished, while keeping everybody together with no need for expensive busses.

Having the President of Dodge, Ralph Gilles there for the whole event was unpresidented. Ran into him all over the place, even while driving on the road course. This kind of access to top management is very unusual, and greatly appreciated. He shook hands, signed memorabilia, and spoke with great enthusiasm about his plans for Dodge. In addition he listened intently to our comments, and was genuine in his desire to gain our input about future products and concerns.

VCA officials, and regional Presidents also were all over the place. Helping out, providing direction and information for those just arriving. Most of them came early and got familiar with the layout and had day long meetings to make sure everything went as well as possible.

Even Vendors got into the act. Not only were most company owners staffing their booths to give first hand information about their products, but also to listen to the membership as to what they wanted in future products, and to improve current ones.

I saw Jon Brobst from Parts Rack all over the place. He even brought down his professionally prepared Viper Pace Car with strobe lights and full communications package to help stage the various races and provide safety instructions to the drivers. (at his own expense)

Dodge sent down engineers to see how our stock and modified Vipers were holding up under track conditions, and designers to see how we were modifying our cars to perhaps give them ideas for future generations of Vipers. At previous VOI's they saw how we were putting on rear wings and front splitters, which most likely gave them ideas to further refine and produce the fantastic ACR's. (Thanks WingKing)

All this, and much more, goes into determining where and how to launch a VOI. For those who's only criteria is that it be a short drive from their homes might be missing the whole point. Every year Dodge understands that some will need to travel great distances to attend. The number of attendees from outside the United States is considerable. Dodge even brings a fleet of factory Vipers most years so that those that do not have their own cars can still drive Vipers on the track events.

So when the official decision is finally announced, do as many of the Viper Faithful do....find a way...don't miss out...make the effort...BE THERE!

Well here's the 2012 NARRA schedule so it will have to be one of these weekends @ one of these locations

2012 NARRA Calendar

March TBA

April 20-22 Texas World Speedway - College Station, TX

May TBA

June 8-10 New Jersey Motorsports Park - Millville, NJ

July 13-15 Virginia International Raceway - Alton, VA

Aug 24-26 Monticello Motor Club - Monticello, NY*

Sept 28-30 Texas World Speedway - College Station, TX

Oct 19-21 Watkins Glen Int'l - Watkins Glen, NY

My guess is Sept.28-30 in Texas. Why go back to a track the series has already been to earlier in the year unless it's for a special event

Dear MTGTS,

I agree with your assumption....Last VOI was the 3rd weekend of Sept if memory serves me correctly.

There's only one issue, College Station is 1.5 hours from Houston and 1:75 hours from Austin.....I know our Vipers can make that in 30 minutes, but I'm not one to believe they'll close the roads so that we can attempt such a feat two days in a row.

Regards,
Aaron

why would you want to go to Houston in September if you are doing stuff in college station... so many hott women in college station for school. you can't beat that for scenery especially if you throw a few vipers in the mix

Dear LXADeuce,

On the contrary, I've never had an issue with women in Texas, they are some of the nicest women in this great country....however based upon the way I've seen VOI's planned, the 1.5 hour drive seems like not such a great fit based upon travel alone. Houston would have plenty of space to host us and I think it's central enough that a lot of the membership would attend. It's a 30 hour drive for me, so I'd likely use a transport service.

Regards,
Aaron

or people could stay in houston and you could hit TexasWorld Speedway one day, then MSRHouston another day. one is 1.5 hours from houston, the other is 45 minutes, both are great tracks

...just spent 10/29 through 11/01 in Vegas. Saturday, SRT Track Experience at LVMS... Sunday, NHRA Nats at the Drag Strip... Monday, stopped by Carroll Shelby's place for some history. Finished up with SEMA on Tuesday.

I'm very impressed with the size and offerings of the LVMS complex. Big oval, infield road course, additional "outfield" road course, and a GREAT dragstrip. LVMS could handle a variety of driving events, simultaneously if necessary.

Combine that with the obvious additional entertainment/spouse factor, and it's a pretty convincing scenario to make a long drive worthwhile. One could easily stay a day or two extra on either (both!) ends of the VOI and make it a full-bore vacation trip. Nice cruises in the nearby mountains, too.

Probably repeating myself, and I know that Vegas hosted VOI 9, but it seems like a perfect destination for drivers.
