Wow! So I was minding my own business on Saturday at a coffee shop near my house. Somebody in a red/silver '98 GTS (17" rims and before the newer interior pieces) pulls up. I went up to him and complimented him on his car. It's the polite thing to do. Didn't say anything rude or act crazy, but here's an accurate transcription of the conversation I had:

Me: Hey, beautiful Viper. Is it a '98?
Owner: **** off, I don't have time for this.
Me: Oh, sorry for bothering you.
Owner: (yells) GET AWAY FROM MY CAR!!
After this, I headed home.

Almost every Viper owner I know or have run into, always acknowledges a polite compliment, and will answer a quick question such as what year their car is from. Just goes to show you, that there are people out there who do not appreciate what they have. A few of you on the forums know me personally and know that I know my Viper trivia. One thing I discovered: there are people who give this car a bad name.

Also, if the owner of this car is on this forum and happens to read this, I have a personal message for you:
In the future, please be a little more kind to those around you who compliment your car. Many people would die to be fortunate enough to be in your position. It really doesn't take long to say "Thank You" and answer a quick legitimate question. It's not like I asked if it had a V8 (no colour wars please) or how fast have you have brought it up to.

Thanks to all who read this rant.

Shocked to read this, sounds like the guy in the car was having a bad day but that's no excuse for that kind of language.
So its someone from Canada, Ontario area?

Sounds like an apology is in order to me :nono:

Do you own a Viper yourself?

You weren't looking like a homeless panhandler dude, carrying a cardboard were you? LOL !

I have had someone like that come up to me in a gas station; but, even they just want to talk about Vipers.

Maybe it was just this guy's time of the month.

Or maybe his wife found out about his girlfriend. LoL

With that kind of attitude I'm surprised his car doesn't have key marks up and down the sides.

Must have been French-Canadian. (just kidding)

Shrug it off as there are A-Holes everywhere. Something similar happened to me here in Denver in 1998. **** of an A-Hole owner brought his 1996 GTS car out to the Denver Auto show. Parked in two parking spots in front of the convention center area. I was admiring the car when he came out to leave in a all leather Viper jacket, blue, black and white, dark shades. I said beautiful car and can I ask a few questions. After some vulgarisms from him, I just backed off. He got in pulled back and was pulling away when his right front tire hit and bounced over the cement parking block stopper. Crunched down on the side sill, then he was caught up. He didn't even get out, just started to back up frantically with wheels spinning, pulled off the barricade, then sped off squealing tires like a little girl who broke up with their boyfriend. I had to laugh! What an idiot!

Life has a way of evening things out. Eventually life will catch up with your guy too.

No, I wasn't looking like a homeless panhandler with a cardboard sign. I take everything with a grain of salt, but never have I heard or exhibited these mannerisms from a Viper owner. It was just shocking. As for Fatboy's question if I am an owner: I'm not. It is on my list of things to do before I die. Caesar, I notice you're in Toronto. I wouldn't want to own that guy's car that's for sure....only because if he's a full-time headcase, I wouldn't want to be followed and thought of as a rude person. Happy Turkey Weekend!

Im in Toronto...actually Richmond Hill... I have a Blue and white 97 GTS.. If anyother shows come by bud.... Definitely grab a Viper whether it be now or ten yrs from now.. With persistance and savings you can achieve anything....And be grateful for what you have..Never forget where you came from and be appreciative.

When we have disregards for others like Guitarsteve encountered it reflects poorly on the character of oneself..and just shows you have no class!!

Those are the ********** that really did buy a Viper due to little penis syndrome that give the rest of us a bad name. Sadly the Viper can't make up for their piss poor personality and little penis.

Took my Viper to the local car show this weekend. Any little kid that got exited over it got to open it up and sit in the drivers seat.

Yea I don't understand being a Douchbag thing. I also went to a car show this weekend and everyone loved it. I enjoy talking to people about the car and explaining to them how fun they are.

Wow, terrible story. No matter how busy we are I bet 99% of viper owners will take the time and say thank you, some uber-rabid ones like me will offer to let you sit in it (Like Blainne above), or take a pic of you in it if you are particularly jazzed/cool, as you seem to be.

Please know that a@@hole does not represent most of us, we know we're pretty fortunate, and we're mostly lucky gear heads, who love talking about cars.

So sorry this happened to you, please don't let that ruin a desire (if you have one) of owning one of these spectacular cars, It won't turn you into a Dbag, as some other cars might :)

Next time get a license plate so we can have a public lashing...

I drained every bank account I had and the old piggy banks and savings books I had had as a child to get the Viper.

Best car I have ever had, 6 yrs down the line I still walk into the Garage and have to pinch myself the car is really mine.

Keep saving Steve, its worth it ;)

I do the same thing. And one thing my wife said the other day, she has always been surprised is the Viper is admired by all ages and genders.

Doesn't hurt to do like you do and light a kid up by letting them sit in your car.

Wow. Amazing. Probably caught him at the wrong time. Still, shouldn't act/treat people that way. I love it when people ask about the Viper. I try to be as polite as possible. Figure these are potential Mopar buyers down the road......Benefits us all. I remember when I was much younger how thrilled I was to see a Viper and talk with the owners.......

I expect that type of behaviour from a Ferrari owner. Viper owners are the nicest group of people out there. Having been a passenger in many for various occasions and speaking to the guys and gals that drive them, I have experience. Viper owners are car people that love cars.

In closing, I hope everybody enjoys the rest of their weekend.

If that conversation is accurate and you didnt come across smug in anyway.. yeah.. that's pretty lame.

I'm guilty of not wanting to chat about my car a hand full of times though if I legitimately need to leave, but I will always answer a few bursts of questions and leave with a smile or thumbs up.

This past spring my dad and I ran to Autozone to look for a spark plug for my lawnmower, when we pulled in there was a silver/blue '98 GTS in the parking lot. I got out of his car and was admiring the rare color combo and taking a couple pics on my phone when a guy walks up and says to get in the car. He proceeded to unlock it and let me sit in it, pose for a couple pics with it, chatted for a while then even did a small burnout for us. That's pretty much the experience I've had with all Viper owners

Oh my bad, I was thinking I read cars and coffee for some reason. Anyways that is pretty sad, that guy shouldn't own a viper. That is just a 1 percenter, there is always one or two that give every group a bad name. I'm even nice to the guys that say "nice vette" to me. :)

If it was in ontario, i know exactly who the guy is (or at least i have met him before) He came to the Mopar fest and sat there trying to talk down to me since i only owned a 94. guy was a complete dick! thankfully, there were 4 other Viper owners there that all gave him a piece of our minds. You will be glad to know that he left with his tail between his legs. Some people buy the cars because they love the car, others buy it as a status symbol. This guy thought his 98 was a multi million dollar car. Douch bag.
