First time Viper owner, 94 RT/10

I kicked around getting a Gen 2 as price was comparable to this car because it was in such great shape/low miles, but I was drawn to the originality and ridiculousness of the Gen 1. While mine does have A/C, no roof, door handles or side windows and the side exhaust make it stupid and brilliant at the same time.

Sure, it isn’t the most practical because of those things, but I don’t think any of us bought these things for their practicality.

As far as I’m concerned you can’t go wrong with any of them, just a matter of personal preference.

At some point I’d like to get my hands on a Gen 2 GTS B/W, but for now I’m enjoying the hell out of this thing.

Exact reason why I went with a Gen 1. Raw and started it all. Congrats to OP, enjoy it.

My first Viper was a yellow 95 RT10, at that time that was the coolest car ever to hit the road, I did a lot of mods to the engine,it was fast as hell, I have a 99 GTS now and I love it, but had the most fun in my life with the gen 1 .

Good to know. I've thought about training in my RT for a GTS, but the RT is just so much fun. Maybe I'll just need to buy another and have two in the garage.

So a lifelong dream of mine was finally realized when I decided to pull the trigger on a ‘94 RT/10 in Viper Red. The Viper is what got me into cars and I can still picture that ‘97 GTS (B/W) poster hanging on my wall and the die cast RT/10’s that adorned my dresser.

This particular car only has 3k miles, so I had it trailered to Tator’s to give the car a once over. Early results indicate the car needs very little, sitting so much for so long had me a bit worried. Oddly enough, it is missing its sun visors..

Just wanted to pop in here for a first post and say “hi”. Looking forward to becoming a part of the Viper community and learning a bit more about my snake.

Congrats, I sold my 94 8 years ago and have regretted it ever since. Thinking of getting another. I have owned many awesome vehicles and still do. The Viper was one of the very best. They do bite, drive safe....

Don't want to hijack the thread, but everyone says to be careful. I assume that is only in rain or turning right? I have tires that are basically new (from used standpoint.....90% tread), but are older (2010 & 2011). I've gotten on it in straight lines and never even broke the grip. Assuming it's mostly dangerous in corners and hazardous weather?

Don't think about getting on it in the rain..........I'm surprised that it doesn't break loose in a straight line. Just play with it and know the limitations of your skill level and the HP of the car. If you can get track time that helps. It's always nice to fly off the road at a track vs. city street. Have fun.

It's more about torque than horsepower when speaking of initial takeoff. I punched the accelorator the other day and my '02 RT/10 got a little fishy when I hit second gear at full throttle. I have two-year-old Toyo R888R tires and they are very sticky. BTW, ten-year-old tires should be dumped, good tread or not, especially on a Viper. I know others will disagree, so do your own research.

Yep, see all the responses about older tires needing to replace, but I also hear the other side saying that tire material is different from years ago and can last much longer. I know the safe bet is to just buy new ones, but is there any real merit to saying new tire material can be used longer on a performance car? Really only wondering if the Michelin Pilot Sports have had material changes from the 90s or if they still use the same formula now.

Chiming in again on tires. When I got my 2nd Viper in 2018 (2002 RT) it had the original Michs. The car had 5000 mi, so lots of tread but 16 yr old tires. On close inspection I could see tiny cracks in the sidewalls and the tread was pretty hard. Hard tread breaks loose easily. Unexpected break away=control loss. So got nice new Goodrich Rivals--sticky tread, grip forever. My only regret is I didn't take the Michs out for a burn session and some control practice. As you say maybe the formula's been improved. We'll see.

I put a top on from autoform. ?? They have windows and it makes it into a fast back. I like the wait looks. Kind of like a Gen II Best hard top for the Gen I in my opinion. Has windows that slide.
