Hey ya'll...need more help. On a 96 GTS (factory was 17" wheels???), does 19" rears and 18" front require any kind of speedo recalibration?

Also, exhaust system consists of 1) B&B headers, 2) no cats, and 3) Corsa cat-back 3" exhaust. Question is...will putting cats back on decrease the sound (sounds great now, but too loud to tolerate everyday)...AND is there maybe another brand/type of header that might also decrease the sound? I'm sure the present sound would soon produce a ticket for noise pollution where I live. With 925 rwhp, don't know how quiet it can be made, but is just too radical the way it is.

Thanks in advance... oh...anyone have sound bytes of their cars at idle? I have a sound clip of this one.

Hi-flow cat's would quiet it down some. Corsa exhaust is not as "pronounced" IMO compared to the mean rumble (which I prefer :D ) of say Borla, B&B etc. Is this BlownGTS's car thats up for sale? The stock cam in that car (his motor is pretty much stock right?) is fairly agressive with a nice lope to it, adding cat's or new headers won't really change that.

If it's Blown's car, be careful, it's a monster  :headbang:

By putting HIGH FLOW cats on that monster, you may see a reduction in noise. Don't put back the stock cats, too restrictive for the amount of air flowing. That thing is wicked fast!

Yes...it is BlownGTS's car. I love the sound now, but as I said, don't think I could handle it on an everyday basis. UGR would put high flow cats on it and said it would be some quieter. NO...I wouldn't want the lumpy sound of the cam (stock) to ever go away...love that idle. Just the overall exhaust sound is like the old days when we had cutouts...open them up and it sounded like no exhaust system at all. Maybe fun for the track, but not everyday driving.

As for the car's power, I would never race it...been there, done that with my blown vette. I just happen to like the 96/97 blue/white Vipers and if it comes with a little (or a lot) of extra power, so be it.

There are no other Vipers around my area to listen to, so don't know if they are all that loud. I thought that Corsa was supposed to be quieter and without resonance when compared to other systems. So, those of you familiar with this car...is it louder than most? Opinions are fine...that is what I'm asking for.

Thanks...

Try to listen to a Borla or B&B car (go to an event maybe?), and you'll probably be happy your car has the Corsa on it. The Borla just rumbles like all hell breaking loose, which I like, but am guessing your not looking for. The Corsa exhaust and hi-flow cats is about as quiet as you'll get a Viper to be w/o going to a stock exhaust and sounding like a Volvo and Harley having sex.

I would say the Viper is louder then most, you have 488 ci born from hell (Blowns car in particular) under that hood, but even then you still have some of those Stangs driving around sounding like a freaking drag car lol.

Thanks all for your opinions and input. Could still use ideas on going from stock 17" wheels to 19" rear and 18" front...does that require a speedo adjust?

As to the sound, guess I will have to listen some more and maybe flip a coin. During my ride, I'm sure we could not hear a CD playing, although we didn't try it...too busy getting whiplash.

Also, would this Viper like most, benefit from a change to 3.55 gears? I have no knowledge in this area...don't know if a 600 rwhp vs a 900 rwhp car gets the same benefits of the taller gears. I understand that the 3.55s make 4th and 5th gear more useable, as well as down low in city driving.

I know this car is loud, but if those of you with headers and the Corsa system...and familiar with BlownGTS' car...think that yours is about as loud, then I will accept that as being the "norm". Would love to hear any sound clips you have, since finding Vipers in my area to listen to is almost impossible. Eight million Corvettes, but not a Viper to be found!

18" doesn't need an adjustment. Since the side-wall of the tyres is smaller, the whole wheel has the same diameter as 17"ers. I heard that from a few guys here that changed their 97/98 GTS's to 99> rims.

You have to adjust with 19 inchers though.

I wouldn't change the gear in that car. It's so traction limited now it would be useless with anything more. A 900 rwhp car doesn't need anymore gear.

Conventional wisdom: No way you need more gear with radials but you will need to adjust the speedo. Call a tuner.

That being said, I have 3.55's in my DLM car and really enjoy them. But you said you are no racer and just wanted a Viper, so why bother with gears? You may very well wet yourself with an under-geared 925rwhp. I'd recommend you wait and see.

Chad...I had 4.09s in my C4 vette when I ran 10.21 @136. I know it doesn't make it faster...just the SOTP feeling. When I first added gears to the vette, felt like I gained 100hp. But...as pointed out, with 925rwhp who needs gears?

Mike, What do you intend to do with the wheels and tires that you bought on the car? I remember seeing pictures of the car and I like those wheels. I'm just over the county line here outside Burlington.
