It's funny, I had no idea about Mr. Hen's reputation within the Viper community until I became a member of the VCA  . I own a 96 GTS Venom 550 and am extremely happy with it. I have never had financial transaction with him and can't say anything bad about the car.

Question for the Viper community: How do other Viper owners feel about individuals like myself who own a Hen Viper? Do you feel like I am supporting a thief/crook by owning one of his vehicles? Input is appreciated but please be gentle :D .

I very excited to be part of the Viper community and would simply like to get a feeling of how I will be treated when I show up with a Hen car. I still think it's a Viper but maybe some others do not.

He does great work. You can't take that away from the man. His business ethics **** period.
I'm sure you will be fine and have nothing to worry about.

I would imagine you have crower rockers. If you do, you should change them or at a minimum have them closely inspected. If you want to know why I'll send pics.

I have a set of T&D rockers. So I assume I am safe with these?

I would like to have one of those Hen cars in addition to my GTS. It kinda reminds me of the tuners in the 60's (yes I am old) like Yenko, Baldwin Motion, etc. Those cars are worth tons now so I suppose the Hen cars will be too in the future. My $ .02 worth. :2tu:

Thanks for the input!! Much appreciated!! The best part about the car is the extremely loud exhaust system and attitude. It's all go!! :nana:

I have a 94 Venom 500. I love the car but have been unable to obtain info as to what was modified by Hen. If any one knows what makes it a Venom 500 please let me know!

I had the same question in my mind, "what makes it a Hen car?" So I called Hen Motorsports and asked them directly if they had any documentation regarding my car. Apparently Hen didn't keep any documentation "in the early days of operation" and therefore could not confirm if my car was in fact a Hen. John Hen suggested the only way to verify that it is in fact a Hen car is to send the car to him for verification. And this is something I will definitely not do.

I actually have a price list from Hen that indicates the parts and costs associated with the specific Hen upgrades. I used this information to verify against what I actually had (exhaust, roller rockers, intake porting, valve covers engraved, serial number plaque on dash, Hen badging, cam spec documentation and actual horsepower/torque numbers from a certified dyno).

Hope this helps! :2tu:

There have been posts that some Hen cars made no more power on a dyno than a stock Viper.

So does the Hen sticker mod loose it's effectiveness over time?

I just bought a 97GTS that was advertised as having a Hen 500 Package on it. I can't find anywhere that explains what exactly was in that package. I was told roller rockers, throttle bodies, lifters, headers and exhaust. The car was advertised as 553 HP. I will have it dynoed eventually to see what it really makes. Anyone ever heard of this package?

Yes, and I will explain. Hen made the following Venom models; 500, 550, 600, 650 which referred to the horsepower each model would produce. Again, I have a price list which identifies the different models and what modified parts come with each.

Hope this helps!

The Venom500 was probably the most popular package because
of its price. As for the car itself you absolutely need to
take it to the dyno and see the numbers for yourself. If you
are producing over 500 rwhp then you probably do have a
decent tuner car. If you have a Venom650 package producing
425 rwhp (like one of our past members) you've been
hennyscrewed.

While many here (myself included) wouldn't recommend buying
a hen car, or at the very least a thoroughly inspected and
scrutinized hen car, no one in the club will criticize anyone
for actually owning one. Many of his cars are legitimate
performers and are worth the prices paid.

GTSjbud - My only real concern is with people like yourself
diving into the deep end of the viper pool without checking
with one of the websites first. I am glad you are happy with
your car, but there was a real chance of you're first viper
experience being a really bad one.

Agreed that no one would or should criticize you, they should rather welcome you into the Viper family. Definitely get the car dynoed to see what you actually have. JH was famous for loud exhaust and only installing the mods that you can see. When I had my problems with him I had spoken to former employee's who said that MANY cars left the shop with stock internals, when the customer paid for much more. GTSjbud I hope you got the real deal, but either way just make sure you drive and enjoy your car!

It's because everyone on this forum is a thuroughly honest, hard working, taxpaying hourly wage earner. That's how they can afford to live the Viper lifestyle and frown on thiefs/crooks.

i was told that the 500,550,650,1000 ect... were hp quoted at the flywheel

Agreed, i have read this too.

Yes the horsepower numbers are taken at the flywheel and not the rear wheels.

For example, my car is a Venom 550 and therefore suposed to put out 550 horsepower at the flywheel. I have a dyno sheet that shows my rear wheel horsepower as 514 which brings the flywheel horsepower around 591. So my car puts out more horsepower than what a Venom 550 should. So I am very happy with that!! :2tu:
