anyone want to take a guess....so far there is no structural damage to suspension or undercarriage

Front fasica is about $1500 from Dodge (without paint). If you are worried about cost (i.e., not reporting to insurance), then a fiberglass expert could use the passenger side to make a template for the driver side rebuild. An expert in this area should be able to do the work such that no one would ever know. Otherwise, inner fender is $3500 from Dodge. Good luck!

Hmmm...

$1300 for front bumper, $6500 for side sill, $600 for headlight bracket, don't know how much the foglight kit will cost, $400 for a new PS2, perhaps re-chrome the wheel if it got scratched, $200, + paint and labor costs.


just guessing...

What happened?

got hit by a semi tire.....

OK jonb hit the nail on the head....$8800 out the door with tax and that does include the clear bra...my rim and tire are fine... the side sill will be repainted and here are the parts needed...

Bumper cover.....$1200
Impact bar...........$468
Medallion viper head
Left Headlamp assy..$1420
Left Fog lamp assy...$117

Left Panel cooling

Prices are what the insurance allows...JonB is working on supplying the parts so hopefully some of the savings will be passed on to me by the body shop....

BTW many thanks to JonB for mentionning the "Diminished Value" claim... i will be pursuing this with the "at fault" insurance once the repair is finished...

Did you run the tire over after it hit the front.......? Whats wrong with the headlight assembly? looks like you could save 1500.00 there.

The rubber surrounding the headlight assembly was pulled off.. it could probably be glued back on. The geico adjuster was concerned that moisture might leak in and wanted to replace it....The body shop also seemed a little surprised that the assmebly needed replacing...

Geico already wrote me a check (no lien holder) for the repairs and are pursuing payment recovery from the trucker's insurance

I must say the body shop pretty much has me by the balls at this point.... they decide who they order the parts from .. which paint they use.... i guess it's their business...

Since you have the check.................I would hold off on replacing the light, then if there is a moisture problem then order one. The rubber seal came off the bottom of my light (for some unknown reason) and it took me about a year to finally take it to the dealer for them to replace the light (under warranty) but in that year I never had a problem with moisture. Just my opinion:)

I'd be finding another body shop. If you have the check you control everything.

Basically i went to three local body shops....one was recommended by my dealer, one was recommended by a local friend who has minor work done on his F430, and another was neighbour to the insurance adjustors office......

First body shop insisted that they order the parts but were willing to take JonB's number...4 days passed and i stopped by the shop to see how the ordering of the parts was going....Was informed that the body shop could not locate any parts...they never called JonB and basically didn't want my business

Second and Third body shops would not touch my car if i wanted to supply the parts.....So i chose one of the shops and as of this afternoon they have ordered the parts from their supplier despite myself recommending JonB.

Basically no body shop will touch my car UNLESS they make their profit share from the parts.....

As an afterthought i did think about just ordering the parts myself and asking the body shop to take their normal share of parts profit based on the msrp of the parts..In the end though i was tired of driving around and i just want my damn car fixed...

Another lesson i learned was it's not a good idea to let the body shop see the adjustors part list and what the insurance is willing to pay...then they realize just how much profit they can make....However i did contact 2 dealers who sponsor this site and the first thing one of them asked for was that adjustor part list

Body shops are not affected by the economy , only hail storms

I had a body shop expand it's margin by repairing curb rash scrapes on my driver's side sill instead of replacing it. Since the work was already done and the sill looked great, I let it go but wonder if I will have issues down the road.

Nope. Not after you factor in the rent on the building (or if they own the building: taxes), insurance on the building, insurance on the inventory, electricity, lawyers fees (someone is always starting a lawsuit), equipment costs (tools, air compressors etc. all wear out), supplies (rags, chemicals, sand paper, bondo etc), health benefits (if the employer chooses to provide medical benefits), etc. etc.

Agreed.


PartsRack's 50%-60% off MSRP on SRT10 -NEW- body panels allows the body shop to mark up 20-25% and STILL absorb the deductible for the owner, and also save the insurance company 10-15%
