Hi, new member here. I have a 93 that I got last year. I recently discovered some scoring in #3 cylinder and I am going to pull the motor to fix it. While I have it out I want to change the cam. Not really looking for peak power I simply want a better sound. I feel a cam and lifters is the smart move while the motor is out. I am new to the v10 world so I am looking for suggestions.

The only cam to get and is a direct bolt-on, is a the 708-1996-99 camshaft. Has a wonderful profile, and with 1.7 Rockers, sounds amazing. I sell ported Gen 1 heads too.Even if you don't buy mine, get some work done. That said, the 2000-02 camshafts are just fine and make good power, just don't have the lope the 96-99 cams do. I have several new ones for sale.

The Gen 1 heads are HORRIBLE!!! You can upgrade the injectors to the Gen 2 red tops(direct bolt on, plug&play) or go bigger with the yellow Subaru injectors. I sell both. I am also selling Accufab 65MM Throttle bodies for the Gen 1.

Hey, I have a 94 and here’s what Dan Cragin set me up with and it works really well. Car drives great and it put down great power too (488rwhp and 500rwtq on 91).

I still have cam, injector, tune packages if interested or I can tell you where to get the parts. You will need a tune though, which I think I can only provide.

Dan,

Are you supplying parts or do you also do the work if it is brought to you?

I do sometimes, or can refer you to a shop.
Sometimes it’s better to pull the motor and send it. That way we can check the bearings, change all the seals, jet wash everything, degree the cam, clean the injectors and sometimes paint the valve covers. It’s a 30 plus year old engine.

There are lots of ways to go, depending on your budget. If you wanted to tackle it yourself or with a friend, I can walk you through it. As these cars get older, these jobs can be more time consuming, more so when you need to source parts.

Definitely do heads if you can, really transforms the power delivery. Skip a 708 or creampuff OE cam and go with something aftermarket - more power, better sound, etc. - as it's a PITA job for minor gains with OE parts.

Yes and no. The tune on a bigger cam is tricky with a G1. With the 708 or creamy, it will be more canned, but more safe too since it has been done so many times. I bet Dan Cragin has lost count how many Gen 1 heads/cams he has done.
