Use a blow dryer on hot to soften the vinyl just enough to allow you to curve it the way you want without wrinkles... but not too much!
You may want to try a practice piece or two. Good luck and have patience.
Thanks Aaron.
Dan, the wing is an original wing as those used in the GTS-R racers that Woodhouse parted with after his old GTS got trashed. If this wasn't available, I was going to get the CF wing from Snake Oyl. The splitter is tougher. The only other front splitter I saw that was functional...
Well, I put the carbon fiber (real) GTS-R wing and the front splitter on my track car ('97 GTS) from Bob Woodhouse's old '96 GTS which had been gutted on the interior by fire at the recent MAM Viper Days event.
While I was at it I upgraded the brakes to Dave's SRT brakes. Mark Jorgensen and the...
I have the Woodhouse race motor and tranny mounts on my GTS. Of course it's mostly a track car but, with the lope of the '97 cam, the whole car rocks back and forth gently at idle... it almost puts me to sleep when I'm waiting in the pits.
On the track, along with the monoball suspension...
Nobody knows how to set up a viper for the track better than Mark Jorgensen, Rick Maxwell and the folks over at Woodhouse... but that should be obvious.
They haven't said much about the compression and rebound settings of the shocks so far. They can affect how your car transitions into and out of turns by affecting the rate of weight transfer. They have no effect when your car is in a steady state though, spring rates control this. All of these...
Man, I also spent 10 min, looking at every page 3 times for that article this morning when I got my Autoweek in the mail.
This is why I haven't ordered the '08 yet. First there are the colors... now maybe an ACR... at this rate it will be '09 before I can decide what to get!
I always skip the BS sections on interior, etc. I guess I thought everyone else here did too.
If the Viper beats the ZO6 in every performance category that's all I care about!
I was actually sweating the performance categories because, as stated above, most rag drivers don't know how to drive...
I plan on trading in (or selling) my copperhead for an '08. Too much of an improvement to ignore. Yes, we keep losing money when we buy brand new cars and sell them within a couple of years so I would only do it if you can afford those losses.
I'm not sure how long the viper line will continue...
I don't know what my gas mileage is and I do agree that the gauge seems to be off and I do seem to fill it up alot.
Just for the record though, the window sticker says 12/20 for mileage. You know how optimistic these numbers are from the manufacturer so 10 mpg seems right. I hope I'm getting that!
I too own both cars and love both. When the '08's hit the streets and I can decide what color(s) I want I will get rid of the copperhead.
I mainly bought the FGT because I love the styling (I am a sucker for that era anyway) and I feel like the FGT shows that an American car company can build...
It may be from where the convertible top meets the header, especially where the little nub goes into the hole on the header (one on each side I think).
Use silicone lubricant.
What liability issues are you guys speaking about?
I have (perhaps incorrectly) believed that you "drive at your own risk" when at the track... just like swimming at the beach.
Should I be concerned that someone may sue me at the track? What would be the scenaroi?
Re: Deceleration Rate Measurements: OEM vs. 40mm Rear Brake Calipers (Negative "G's")
Great evaluation Tom! and good discussion.
I have had Tom's 40 mm rears now for 2 seasons on the track car and they are great indeed. I removed the prop valve to get as much to the rear as possible and then...
For me, a suspension upgrade would be an important part of the package for an "ACR" version.
As far as HP, whatever simple bolt-on's (intake, exhaust) bring it to would be fine with me.
Handling is as important as HP for an ACR.
ANYTHING that can reasonably be done to lower weight would also be...
When you change brake pad material, you have to "scuff" the rotors meaning removing the old brake pad material. I do this using a 3M pad connected to my drill... dirty business.
If you only intend to do this one track event then I'd stick with the stock pads, if that's what you already have. If...
I really enjoy my Gen II and Gen III vipers but my Ford GT is special.
I love the style as I did the GT40 and it still holds up 40 years later.
I will trade up my SRT but will always own my GT.
There will never be any newer GT models that will make the '05 and '06's obsolete.
Ford will never...
I am having the urethane motor mounts and the trans mounts installed by Woodhouse as we speak on my GTS.
I'll see the difference (I hope) when I get the car back to the track in the spring.
