I've thought about upgrading my 96 GTS for better shifting (not strength) with double and triple cone synchronizers. The T56 suckz ballz with single cone synchros that were designed for 4-speeds w/o the additional "two gear's worth" of extra rotational mass not to mention a huge single disc clutch.
I think there will be a Viper Bubble not unlike the Ferrari V12 Bubble. But a Ferrari is just another Lambo is just another.... The Viper on the other hand is clearly the Last Raw Beast ever produced and it has a 500 cu in engine and 10 cyl. That is iconic and unique. $70k for a car nowadays...
Yes, it ***** beyond all known limits, but I would never do this if the car was original and completely unmodified. Of course it is your car and you can do what you want.
The "straw" with this setup is that I believe there are 4 different types of fasteners, each requiring a different tool to...
I am by no means an expert on these, but Cardone seems to able to rebuild ANY water pump - like if you have one from a Ruxton. Technically is isn't that hard. You need seals, maybe a new or resurfaced shaft, and the hardest part, possibly an impeller. None of these are insurmountable - even...
Someone needs to chime in that has seen this sort of failure.
My 2 cents worth:
Do you have the FSM's and wiring diagram?
Try to find what the failures have in common.
I do seem to recall there were issues with the main power stud in the fusebox above the PCM behind the LH wheel house.
The...
Any info on driver adjustable rear bars? Rally guys used them. Something along the lines of the arms coming off the torsion bar had easy and stiffwise moments of intertia so by rotating them, you could change the stiffness of the arms. So some kind of worm gear drive and a cabin crank???
If you plan on keeping the car OR work on it yourself, I'd suggest getting all the factory service manuals - in particular the wiring diagram.
I know parts manuals are on-line (I think Roe Racing has links to them.)
Also, the problems are all things controlled from the center console. Since...
These cars might go stupid expensive if the EV changeover occurs quickly - but that move won't be apparent for at least 5-10 years in my totally uninformed, ignorant opinion.
NOTE: I think EV changeover will be stunted when the limitations of charging logistics including the capacity of the...
You might want to check with Fastenal - they have a package/freight service between their locations. You could put the tires on a pallet too if you wanted. They have forklifts to unload.
Still trying to figure out how to pull a few degrees for a 150 shot in a 1996 GTS PCM. So far there isn't a clean solution. (I don't think there is a Lingenfelter "LNC-2000" for Viper.)
Then it occurred to me if E85 was used instead of gasoline (car remains fueled on gasoline) for the wet...
The single cone synchro T56 doesn't have enough synchro force to shift easily at high rpm. (hence the double and triple cone synchros) Are there any multiple clutch setups that would mitigate that issue?
To me, mileage tells the whole story. If you get that kind of miles, it is a "passenger car tire" and not a "race tire" that gets 9000 to 12000 and may come new with 5 or 7/32nds tread depth instead of the usual 11/32nds. I think the Mich PS2's had a strong mileage warranty (another...
What about rain and cold weather?
Some of the tires mentioned will crack in cold weather - even if just rolling car in cold garage. Pirelli voids warranty if some of their tires are driven under 45*F. GM has TSB warning use under 25*F. I revel in a bitter cold, sunny winter day when the...
Did you ever see a Black w/Red stripe GTS around? That was me. I kept my car in a friend's airplane hanger in Carson City from 2001 to 2019 and drove it when I'd visit for 2-3 weeks usually during the time of the Reno Air Races.
In 2019 I finally drove my car home to Jeannette, PA near...
I believe the single cone transmissions should be avoided. I have never shifted a double or triple cone but it has to be a significant improvement.
The large single cone evolved from the T85 3-spd into the 4-speeds. Then they added over 50% more gear inertia by adding 5th and 6th and making...
Wonder if just making a new plastic lens that would have to be bonded onto the bucket would keep costs down and sales up.
We can dream about having them made in glass! haha
The Champion reference information is a shadow of what it used to be back in the 70's. Their codes are not standard: a 3-letter code could be 3-things or 1.
Thanks
I like Hagerty for Collector Car insurance. They allow: 1) locked garage, 2) garage w/o a door, car port, and parked in the driveway! All Hail Hagerty!
J.C. Taylor can Burn in Hell. Your daily driver can be no more than 20 years old (mine is a 74 Datsun 620 pickup!)
Drive it. Who cares what she looks like if she's "good in bed!"
A truly ratty Viper is cool! - they look like they just did an endurance race! Brake dust is beautiful!
If you are obsessed with paint, wrap it (I have no idea what that costs.) Either go clear matte or something else...
