I own a 96 B/W and when I went to the dealer, I asked them what to use in my Tranny and they told me there chart stated Syntorq. I decided to go against there recommendation and I filled mine with ATF+4 instead. My tranny on the side says Dextron III David.- daveg

Alternator Fuse?
Hi Suerteviper, It is referred to as a “Fusible link” The Fusible link is between the Main Lug on the alternator and the Power Distribution Unit (PDU) Also, check the Battery Ground located at the left rear frame rail from the battery as this will cause charging issues as well... Having charging issues...
Make sure the alternator belt is nce and tight... If it is, I would replace the battery. Could have a shorted cell.....- daveg

Did you use a volt meter (DVM) or the Volt meter in the dash of the car?- daveg

First thing I would do is get the car running and then under the hood, put a volt meter on the Positive and negative posts (drivers side). With the car running, you should get high 13 to 14 volts with it running. Also, throw the headlights on and make sure the alternator can still supply that...- daveg

Thanks Fatboy, a 6 point 31mm it is. Another question, did you use the red loc tite on the threads when you re-assembled? I have the 1996 GTS guide from Chris Green and he suggests using the red loc tite... Thoughts?- daveg

Ya, my 1 1/4 was a multi-point so that could be the reason. I did also try a 6 point 32 mm socket (used for the rear axle shafts on my 3000gt) but it felt just as sloppy. I could have probably used the multipoint but the anal retentive in me said to step back and do homework. Not sure if the 1...- daveg

Does anybody know the size of this bolt? I have a 96 GTS and when I changed my oil yesterday I went to check it and all I had was an 11/4 socket but it was slightly to big (going to have to buy the correct socket). Thanks in advance.....- daveg
