First Gen 5 Viper in the 10s!

For the record, there's this pass too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kp0yjz2jI4 To be fair though, there seem to have been some small mods on this car. Not 100% stock but very close.

Car breaking up in cold weather

How long did the car sit before the last drive? Do you keep a battery tender on it? Did it take longer to crank up on cold start? It doesn't take long sitting in cold weather for a viper battery to get discharged to the point of causing issues (without necessarily throwing any codes...

10 second Gen III N/A Viper?

This guy got 11.28 with the exact mods you listed minus tune and headers (but with 3.73s not 3.55s). In 70 degree weather. He did cut an amazing 1.6 sixty, though. http://www.dragtimes.com/Dodge-Viper-Timeslip-8770.html With an extra 40ish whp from headers/tune, negative DA and perfect...

    New Viper teased?

While we are busy discussing color names and marketing department flops, the C7 guys are busy arguing whether a base stock car can get an 11.4 time (and potentially 10's with tune/headers/DRs), after a bone stock C7 with a driver mod just got 11.6x @ 120. Anyways, back on topic, sorry for...

    New Viper teased?

This is definitely a performance upgrade. Now the guys in Z07s and flash-tuned Mustangs that are passing you will need to slow down to check out that insane blue color. Turn the volume up on the sound system to slow them down even further. "Slow Down Blue"

VCA Drama: what are the known facts?

Bobpantax said: "The new club will be competing for member dollars with the VCA which has established member opportunities and benefits." An aggressive platform for competing for member dollars was VCA "leadership" 's undoing. A website can be supported entirely by ad revenue and voluntary...

    Wanna Go Fast

I went to the Chicago event this year as a spectator. Well worth the small entry fee. Took me half a day to even start getting bored (I got bored with a Formula 1 race within the first 25 minutes). Makes a C&C event feel like watching grass grow. You can spectate from any point of the half mile...

What are the differences in the gen2 vs gen 3 engines? ( rod knock issue ) ---

I think 2003 cars had stronger rods than the next three years of Gen III. On the other hand, starting in model year 2005 Dodge started addressing some of the problems of the oiling system by introducing better main bearings (at the expense of lower oil pressure at warm idle), and recommending a...

Has anyone install the Mopar Performance Part # P5156137 gen4 heads for the gen3

Thanks again, I'll keep an eye for your updated results. Sounds like you are having a lot of fun with the car, even at the high altitude! Did you by any chance dyno your car on the same dyno before doing the upgrade? That would be the best way to measure the hp/trq gains. Assuming the typical...

Has anyone install the Mopar Performance Part # P5156137 gen4 heads for the gen3

Thanks for your response! And congrats on the great numbers you got, especially at 7350 ft above sea level. This kit has been on my radar for a while, as I'll probably upgrade my heads at some point in the future to get closer to Gen IV power territory. I haven't done any track days yet...

Has anyone install the Mopar Performance Part # P5156137 gen4 heads for the gen3

What kind of dyno was that (Dynojet/Mustang/Dyno Dynamics, etc)? Have you run the 1/4 mile with this set up? Thanks in advance for any additional info, as there is a surprising to me shortage of real world feedback on this upgrade.

    Rumors...what's the dealio?

And in a prior post in this same thread you said: "Thread still open. No deletions. You are witnessing change in progress. There will be more in the upcoming days. Change is possible within the system." So which one is it? Is the recent public brouhaha "of absolutely no benefit to anyone" or...

Has anyone install the Mopar Performance Part # P5156137 gen4 heads for the gen3

I found a thread with a dyno graph but unfortunately it looks sketchy - HP and TRQ scales are mismatched. Not sure how credible the results are. 560 whp with headers, high flow cats, corsa, Roe tune...

The smell sensor in my nose tripped a CEL in my brain: "Potential '05 srt issues"

Thanks, Cannibal. I guess you found the issue by taking off the side sills and seeing melted up plastic? Did the smell stay in the car for a few minutes after you let off the gas, or did it immediately go away? I wouldn't say that what I'm experiencing is eye-watering, but definitely somewhat...

The smell sensor in my nose tripped a CEL in my brain: "Potential '05 srt issues"

^ That makes a whole lot of sense, thanks. I have no audible symptoms of a manifold crack at idle/cold start, but was thinking it may be a small one. Plus I know it's a common issue on these cars. But you are right, I'd better start with the easier diagnostics first. I was thinking of freshening...

The smell sensor in my nose tripped a CEL in my brain: "Potential '05 srt issues"

Update: I did some more testing over the weekend and think that it boils down to fueling issues. The smell comes on and completely off as if triggered by an on/off switch - the gas pedal. First three gears are problem-free, except maybe toward the very upper end of third. Any significant...

The smell sensor in my nose tripped a CEL in my brain: "Potential '05 srt issues"

Re: The smell sensor in my nose tripped a CEL in my brain. ECU begs to differ... I agree, the smell is the key. I'd say it has a more chemical overtone than just burning cardboard or plastic - it's not as suffocating yet pretty unpleasant. Almost like that sickly hospital smell. No effect on...

The smell sensor in my nose tripped a CEL in my brain: "Potential '05 srt issues"

Re: The smell sensor in my nose tripped a CEL in my brain. ECU begs to differ... Thanks Sonoman! Never thought about that but it's definitely a possibility. It would also explain the laggier throttle feel. Any good way to establish whether that's the case before the clutch potentially fails?

The smell sensor in my nose tripped a CEL in my brain: "Potential '05 srt issues"

Yes, the car has some SCT tune and is N/A. Also has high flow's, corsa, filters and 3.55 gears. I was thinking of changing the tune anyways. Thanks for the good tip! The P/S system is either leaking or not, and that will be easy to find out on my own.

The smell sensor in my nose tripped a CEL in my brain: "Potential '05 srt issues"

The p/s pump drives the cooling fan, so a depleting P/S fluid can lead to overheating and even engine damage. But I think you are right, there would be some pretty obvious signs like the temp gauges going crazy, which I didn't experience. Looks like the cats are back to being my primary suspect.
