Tommy Archer grabs pole for WCGT at Portland!

Excellent! His margin over the Cadillac is so small, I hope he can hang on for the win! Go Viper!

    2002 Oil Consumption

I don't think that's normal. Mine only burns oil on the track.

Is it normal for a 98 GTS to have an interior door pull on one . . .

That is bizarre. I only have one on the passenger side.

    brake pads, need help

Don't get scared off doing the rears -- they are more difficult than the fronts, but it's nothing you can't do yourself. You simply have to twist the rear pistons at the same time you are pushing them in. There are two round holes in the rear piston for this purpose. Some people just stick...

    brake pads, need help

Regarding Brake Man pads, I recently used them (compound #3) for a track event and they are excellent for that application, but they dust significantly more than the OEM pads and they squeal like crazy. I couldn't stand them for street use and put the OEMs back on.

    brake pads, need help

Bill, the fronts are totally easy to change, but the rears are more complicated. As Steve said, there is a special tool that you will want to get for the job -- it compresses and twists the rear piston at the same time. This will require you to dismount the rear caliper altogether. I have not...

    curb rash

I would thinkl that, given the cost to have it repaired, it would probably not be worth the bother of doing it yourself. I had one fixed a while back and it cost something like $150.

Viper Rental in the Atlanta area...

The place near where I live is called Atlanta Dream Cars, on Piedmont Road. The number on their sign is 404 869 8006. I don't know them, so can't make any kind of recommendation, but I believe they have an SRT-10. Why are you renting a Viper?

Woodhouse, Archer , and McCann in the top 10 - Qualifying!!!

Viper freak -- the Carsport America Viper in the ALMS race blew an engine before the race. This is an old ORECA-built GTS-R, the Comp Coupe is not homologated for competition in the ALMS. I agree we need some competition for the Corvettes, perhaps Dick Barbour's Lambos can do it. Or someone...

Viper Rental in the Atlanta area...

There is an exotic car rental place near where I live that has a red SRT-10. If you want, I can make a note of the name of the company when I drive home today and give you the info.

    1 Viper vs. 500+ Vettes

I actually find most Corvette people to be cool, although there are the obvious exceptions.

My dream car was on the highway today (GTS)

Re: My dream car was on the highway today! I was a Corvette-owning dreamer for about a year on this board before I got my Viper. The advice and support I got from the forum members was a big help in choosing a car and getting it.

    Blown away by new Viper!

OW- Congratulations on graduating from Corvette to Viper. I did the same thing about a year and a half ago and I am still smiling! All the responses above regarding heat are correct. Enjoy your new car!

Open face or closed face helmet for Viper driving only

Just speaking to one point -- stuff flying in your face during autocross. This has happened to me before as well. I think the reason it happens is that many times, you are driving in a parking lot that does not see a lot of traffic, and there is more dust to be thrown up than you get in...

    JD Farmer has left building

JD, we were very lucky to have you as our technician. Even though I hate losing you to BMW, I know you are making the best decision for yourself, so congratulations. Hope to see you at the track and the autocrosses.

    GTS as a Daily Driver

I daily drove my 2001 Z06 for two years, then switched to an 02 GTS, which I also drive every day. I have no problems with driving my GTS every day. It gets very hot in the summer in Atlanta and I have never had an overheating problem. My AC works extremely well -- too well, in fact, because...

GTS Coupe Which year to buy and why??

To continue beating the brake issue -- I also think that the rear rotors and pistons are bigger on the 01 and 02 cars, so the brake bias is supposed to be more balanced than the earlier ones. Obviously, this assumes a stock setup -- if you do aftermarket brakes the earlier cars will stop like...

    a/c...is this info correct???

Yes, the infamous "crotch vents" are not adjustable, at least on my car. But the upper ones on the dashboard are adjustable in both directions.

GTS Coupe Which year to buy and why??

I made the switch from a Z06 to a Viper and wanted one with ABS, so I got an 02. I think the ABS is important enough to hold out for. The only caveat is that if you want to do heavy engine mods (like a blower or whatever), the older cars with forged pistons are supposed to be more suited to...

    Valvetrain noise after hard braking???

Another thing I ran into is that if you brake really hard and don't have very much gas in the tank, there is a fuel pick-up problem, and the engine loses power and makes this loud clicking noise (which I assume is the fuel pump pumping air). I noticed this at a recent track event after heavy...

I just realized My drivers door speakers not working

I had this problem recently -- turns out the wiring loom connecting the door to the body of the car was broken. The stress of opening and closing the door breaks the wires, and the driver's side breaks more frequently because that door opens & closes more often.

    I love CMP!

Well, I just got back from a track event at CMP, and all I can say is I love the track. It's fun, rewards a car with high horsepower, and seems quite safe. My car felt great on the track too. I will definitely be going back!

    Exhaust popping noise?

It has always popped when decelerating in gear at around 2000 rpm or so, but I noticed this idle popping yesterday for the first time. The weirdest thing is, it didn't do it this morning. Could it be a fuel quality issue? I filled it up with gas at a station up in the North Georgia mountains a...

    Exhaust popping noise?

I noticed today that my exhaust is making a fairly soft, quiet "pop" every 10 seconds or so when at idle or very low RPM. Car otherwise appears to be running fine. Anyone have any insight into what this might be?
