2008 ACR at the Drag Strip....

I know Viper's don't have traction control, but do they have some type of torque limiting programming built into the ECU in the Gen IV cars? With throttle by wire, I was wondering if they would have this to limit the torque in the lower gears? If so, that would explain the bog.

how can any viper owner like Connoly Leather?

Re: how can any viper owner like Connelly Leather? Thanks for the compliments on the car and the pictures. Thanks also for the concern about the fire hazard. No need to be worried though. That picture was taken years ago and I am happy to say the car is not in ashes. Still runs fine...

how can any viper owner like Connoly Leather?

I like the interior color with Black and Sapphire exterior colors. In my opinion, it make the car feel like it is a little higher quality. It is different from most of the GEN II interiors. The leather feels better. The color reminds me of a baseball glove. It just seems like a very natural...

What year Viper should I buy?

Long rambling post below. Summary is: Buy a Gen II (preferably 1999, 2001, or 2002) or buy a Gen IV. The Gen II's are great cars and have the looks of a truly special car. The Gen III's are better everyday cars than Gen II's in terms of refinement and brakes but that is about it. If you...

    Viper Service near Pittsburgh, PA?

I recently moved from IL to PA. I need to have the slave cylinder on my '99 RT/10 replaced. Who is a good person / dealer to take it to for this in the Pittsburgh, PA region? On a side note, any ideas on how to get it there? The clutch won't work at all and I doubt that most towing services...

    Clutch won't disengage

Thanks. I searched on that and I see that it looks like this is fairly common. This could be really dangerous if it happened on a road course. Does anyone make a slave cylinder that is more robust than the OEM unit?

    Clutch won't disengage

I was just driving the car back into the garage yesterday. I had the clutch depressed and rev'd the engine, just before pulling the car in, to help get any water out of the tail pipes (I had just finished washing the car in the driveway). All of a sudden (with my foot still on the clutch), the...

Toyo R1 Proxies dropped my 1/4 time by .3

Ran my '99 RT/10 at Cordova, IL last night. Last fall I ran at the same track and the best that I could manage was a 12.2. Last night I hit 11.908 @ 118+ My best previous time ever was at Route 66 and ran a 12.02 @ 118+ The 11.9 was my first launch ever on the Toyo's. I had them installed...

    Alignment near Chicago

Anyone know a good alignment shop near Chicago, preferably near Oak Park area? I tried taking my Viper for an alignment at the Dodge dealer in Forest Park, and they could not get it on their rack. They tried the Chevy dealer next door, same problem. Said it was too low (stock height) to drive...

    track alignment...what to do....?

Are all of the above posted alignments acceptable for street use? Will they cause severe tire wear if driven 3K-7K per year on the street? How will they affect launch if I take the car to a drag strip? With the current (guessing more or less stock) alignment, on a hard launch I get wheel...

    Cold/Hot Knob not working

If you have the AC selected, you only get cold. You can put it on the setting that blows toward the windshield and feet at the same time (defrost/heat setting) then the hot/cold switch will work. It will usually start blowing hot air right away, but leave it on and cooler air will follow. It...

One for the Ford guys. I got beat by an '04 Cobra

Re: One for the Ford guys. I got beat by an \'04 Cobra He was telling the truth. BF Goodrich Drag Radials are technically street tires. They are DOT legal.

One for the Ford guys. I got beat by an '04 Cobra

One for the Ford guys. I got beat by an \'04 Cobra I was at Rt41 Dragway Friday night just for fun. I was hoping to break into the 11's for the first time (previous best of 12.02 at 118 w / 1.7 60 ft). No such luck. The track was very slippery. The right lane was terrible due the previous...

    "CreamPuff"

Re: I AM RIGHT!!!!! All of it is on the creampuffs, but some came on early cars and some did not. Let me break it down for you...... Cast pistons..... 2000 to 2002 and still used today. All of the changes happen at different times, but all are on the 2001 to 2002 creampuffs. Great...

    "CreamPuff"

Re: I know not all of that is completely accurate. '00 cars had cast pistons and a cam with less overlap than the '96-'99 GTS and the '97-'99 RT/10. However the '00 Vipers did not have ABS. I think the stronger frame issue is corrected by the 999 and 998 recalls and when done properly, not...

    FASTER THAN A VIPER

Stock, production (sold by an OEM in the USA), same driver skill, 1/4 mile only, etc. Depending on which test I have read, the Viper (Gen II and SRT) are basically dead even with a Ford GT The only things that I have seen that will beat a Viper in the 1/4 are much more than $100K. Ferrai Enzo...

I just got my RT/10 trunktop (pics inside)

Would you post a pic of the top in your trunk please? Does it take up more room than the soft top in the trunk? When it is in the trunk, is there any room for luggage of any kind?

    Viper Frame a mess

Just another thought here. I too have noticed that sometimes my doors are harder to open and close than at other times. However, I do not attribute this to the frame. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the door hinges are aluminum. I don't know if this is a fact or not and have my car...

What RPM to shift at for best 1/4 mile trap speed?

If you take it to a dyno you can calculate exactly where you should be shifting. I did this for my stock dyno run and for my modified. Completely stock, I got the most area under the curve by shifting at 6,000 RPM from 1st to 2nd, and from 2nd to 3rd. It was best to shift from 3rd to 4th at...

Went to 1/4 mile track my first time last night.

A Viper with a stock motor should run just fine on 93 octane. As to MPH, I have noticed my MPH vary between 113 on a really bad run up to 120 on my best run, and I am fairly consistently running about 118-119. I believe my launch technique and shifts have the most to do with the MPH. If I...
