Moving to SF bay area - bring the Viper??

If you bring it to San Jose, make sure you have a nice secure place to keep it in. Car theft is a huge problem there. I had a car stolen from behind a gated private lot once!

    soft top help!

When you guys say the hard top leaks, which hard top do you mean? I've heard great things about the V-mania tops. Do they leak too?

    soft top help!

Thanks for the help guys. I made it to where I was going, and got the nice little interior shower from the leaky soft top. I brought a towel along in case that happened. For 3 hours it dripped onto both driver and passenger seats... I just spread the towel out and it caught most of it. I see a...

    soft top help!

Ok, I'm hooking the 3 ends of the 3 suppoort rods into their slots, and I can get one side securely in place. I try to do the same on the other side, and the rods always stick out way too far. So if I secure the second side, the rods are all sloppy. Gotta take a break for a while- It's been an...

    soft top help!

Hi- I have to leave in a few hours and it's scheduled to rain. This soft top is giving me so much trouble. I've been trying for 30 minutes to assemble the thing. What is the trick? It feels like the 3 support rods are too long, but I know that's not the case cause this top was on the car when I...

Is this finish reflective enough for ya?

One more thought- for anyone with black finishes, I've recently tried this stuff called "Pinnacle Souveran Wax", which I'm now using as the final touch after the Meguiar's gold class. This stuff pushes glossiness to the point of insanity. The car looks totally liquid afterwards. 65 bucks for 8oz...

    driving in rain

Good. Sounds like my biggest problem will be getting rain on my mirror finish! See my previous post for some pics.

Glad to hear it. It's not supposed to be a T-storm or anything, just normal rain. Thanks.

    driving in rain

I'm bringing my car to a shop about 3 hours from my house on Saturday for some minor work. But the forecast calls for rain (figures). I've never driven the Viper in the rain. How dangerous is it? Should I expect any trouble just going normal highway speeds? I have a stock 95 RT/10. Should I not...

Is this finish reflective enough for ya?

One other thing, I've always had the best results using 3 individual cotton cloths: the first removes all of the wax, the second buffs the surface clean, and the 3rd really gives it the finished look. For the first step, a large white cotton bath towel (mine are fieldcrest) seems to work fine...

Is this finish reflective enough for ya?

Hi Jeff, It works perfectly for me. I can only speak for it's effect on black, however. Every little speck shows up on black, so I wash it every weekend. I only take it out on weekends too, so I'm basically always cleaning it. In all fairness the Z5 did do a fine job of removing swirls...

Is this finish reflective enough for ya?

Scott, It does seem to me that black cars have different requirements for getting the finish right. I've never owned anything but black, so I can't say if Meguiar's would work the same on say red or yellow paint. But that's none of my concern. For black, Meguiar's is the only thing I've been...

Is this finish reflective enough for ya?

Hi Guys, I've had this car in my garage for about a month (it's still winter here, and I just recently bought it). When I bought it, the paint was flat and not very reflective. I went through the entire Zaino process to condition the paint. Several coats of Z5, Z2 and plenty of Z6 in between...

Is this finish reflective enough for ya?

Here's the same car, inside my garage at night. Notice the reflections from the recycle bin, the light bulb, and the stripe on the wall. The car looks wet but it isn't. Nothin' like black.

    Hood hinges

One more question on this. Whoever bent the hinges also put a small crack in the hood. It's hard to see, but you can find it if you look at the right angle. I did notice it when I bought the car, but the dealer told me it was a scratch that had been repaired. Will this crack grow with time, or...

    dead cig lighter

Tried plugging a radar detector into the cig lighter today and... nothing. So I tried the cig lighter itself and it didn't get hot at all. Is this a simple thing to have fixed? Thanks.

Tested the theory that Corvette owners don't wave....

Re: Tested the theory that Corvette owners don\'t wave.... I met an oncoming Vette today. In my rear view I saw him jam on the brakes, do a u-turn, then follow behind me for about 10 miles through the country just to pull up next to me when I stopped and say "Hey man NIIIIIIIICE CAR!". - Buzzzz

    Used Viper inspection checklist?

Hi.. I already have a 95 and love it- I'm just wondering if a checklist exists.

    Used Viper inspection checklist?

It seems like many people buy their Vipers second or third hand. I think it would be useful if there was some kind of checklist that buyers could consult as they inspect a used Viper. I'm talking about a detailed list that the potential buyer could consult while examining the the car, which...

    VIPER DETAIL

Michael, Yes. After all the Z5 and Z2 coats I used just the Z6 and still got as much dust accumulation as with anything else.

    VIPER DETAIL

Question: All the Zaino stuff I've read says its anti-static properties make it repel dust. I didn't find this to be the case at all. In fact after several coats of Z5 then a few more with Z2 and plenty of Z6 spritzes in between, dust still collects like crazy on my car, which is black. And I'm...

    Hood hinges

Hi thanks for the info. Yeah I'm thinking that it's probably best to bring it to a real expert in case the new hinges don't fix it. The gap on mine is not as large as your avatar, but it's bigger than it should be.

    Hood hinges

I recently noticed that the gap between my headlights and hood is larger than it should be. It's not HUGE, but it does look a little larger than normal. It's something that's only obvious to someone who really knows Vipers...I didn't think anything of it when I bought the car. Anyway I brought...

Is there a trick for getting into reverse?

Hi Guys Just wanted to give some closure to this thread. I spoke with the dealer on the phone and they said just bring it in and they'll fix anything that's wrong with it 100% free of charge. Thanks again for all the helpful feedback.
