My passenger side got the entire assembly replaced, not just the lens, so it's a factory piece. The driver's side is still completely factory as well, just really starting to show its age. I think I would be more inclined to put the UV protectant on before any film cover so it more directly...
Is there any reasonable way to increase the UV resistance of these? I had my passenger headlight replaced many years ago due to some loose concrete on the highway getting picked up by my tires and rolled around my inner fender and into the back of the headlight, but now my driver's side one is...
So I think there's a bit of a chicken and egg problem with the winter storage thing. By the letter, it sounds like you should change the oil before storage, but not run the car. But, if you don't run the car, you're not going to get the oil where it needs to be to cling to parts during...
I suspect the early belts must have some kind of "triggered" locks or something like that. I can't imagine they wouldn't lock up in an accident. I know some belts use small explosive charges to lock them in an accident. I think a lot of them nowadays still do as you can see in crash test...
I'd always recommend the stainless metal style gaskets with the crush ridges in them. They will put up with heat way better than any composite gasket. You might lay the gaskets over the headers just to make sure they cover the sealing bead at least. Not as big of an issue on the exhaust side...
I remember people saying the gen 3 hood vents were also not great for this and one reason the gen 4 vents were redesigned. At least if you have the controls on outside air, the hood vents tend to feed right into the A/C inlet at the base of the windshield on the passenger side. I think...
The vents aren't controlled by vacuum, they are controlled by electric actuators on top of the box. I have the service manual in front of me and have disassembled my entire system because I had a broken blend door. There is no vacuum control on the system.
Note how it says the blend door and...
I don't think any part of the HVAC system is tied to vacuum on these cars. The doors and actuators are all electronic from what I've seen and dealt with. The only thing I can imagine might be vacuum controlled would maybe be a hot water shut off valve, but I don't think the Viper uses one of...
Interesting. I believe I remember seeing some footage or article regarding live tuning using a ROM emulator. I'm guessing that would be the modified PCM as I would imagine you have to "splice in" the emulator in place of the existing ROM.
I actually have a DRB3. Can you do any useful logging...
So far I've been fairly happy with the OEM mufflers after I got them installed. I don't think I'll ever be able to have what I truly want, but at least now it's less of a chore to drive the car. It's fairly pleasant to cruise in, but still too loud for a drive thru. It's kind of weird because...
Have you ever heard of the B&G Performance stuff? It looks like they've been doing tuning services for a long time at least, but not sure how long their tuning software has been out.
I was doing some digging trying to find how Chrysler actually does the programming at an OEM/engineering level...
I guess it wasn't your post after all Dan. I went searching back through the forums to try to find the post and I guess it was actually from Chris at DC Performance:
That said, does anyone know if the logging software he was referencing was ever released? I'd be interested in looking it up...
My application is still NA, so no worries about adapting to boost. I've been doing a lot of tuning and tweaking on the Megasquirt I have installed on the 5.7 Hemi in my Dart and was interested in potentially dipping my foot into the JTEC to see what it's like. I've read up a lot on it like the...
That was actually another question I had been pondering. I had originally been looking at the SCT Pro Racer software and I also found B&G Performance Pro Tuner, which looks like it was developed by ex-Chrysler engineers. I was curious how they all compared as far as what they could change and...
Okay, that's reassuring to hear. I have an old wideband I took out of my 5.7 I was thinking I might try to use, though I'm not quite sure the best way to go about that without tripping some codes. It's an old Innovate LC-1 that has the simulated narrowband on a secondary output as well that I...
As the title suggests, anyone around here had any experience using HP Tuners with a gen 3 car? I've been reading on their forums and other places about the teething pains and struggles they had with JTEC compatibility and it seems like the JTEC stuff is really inconsistent. Some people it...
That's fair. Your commute and general environment can have a lot to do with that as well. I've been fortunate in that my original commute was basically all empty highway from my moderate sized town to a small town I worked in, so I never had too many people to deal with. My new job and...
I daily drove my 04 for the better part of 10 years and it still sees fairly regular duty today. In stock form they are a lot more livable than I think people would think, though the earlier ones are certainly a bit less refined. The general advice I give is that if you drive it like a normal...
Glad all the work I did before might actually be useful, lol. I actually ended up putting a stock amp back into my car since I didn't really like the aftermarket setup I had going, which is what started it all. I just got the mating connectors as a fallback plan in case I couldn't find a stock...
So I want to say it's these two connectors:

But I can't verify that at the moment. This is just what I found...
I actually did just this a little while ago. Someone hacked up my factory harness when they put in an aftermarket amp and I wanted to be able to go back to stock, so I got the connectors and terminals to put the factory ends back on and then hunted down the mating ones to be able to make an...
Very cool! I recently saw the ads and video reviews for the Carvera Air and have been tempted to one day try to dip my toe into the CNC game. I have been messing with my 3D printer for probably over a decade now, but never played with metal stuff before.
Manufacturing limitation maybe? I could see scaling it down being an issue for the small emblem on the steering wheel vs the larger ones on the body. I'm not sure I ever would have noticed otherwise, but it is kind of interesting.
Oof, that's rough. Kind of like what SuperFastMatt did with his off-road Viper. I like watching the guy, but that series was a bit harder for me to get through. I just wish these people would start with rougher cars or salvage titles or something like that. Seeing them start with good...
I've seen the link several times, but I keep scrolling past it. Was there something wrong with the original engine to make him go down this path, or was it just for the fun of it?
On the one hand, I'd rather see someone do an engine swap to keep an otherwise good car on the road if the...
