Agree and disagree here some. I always say you can daily drive a riding lawnmower if you are dedicated enough and that's what you really want to do. There are most certainly limitations with the Viper such as storage space and weather limitations (mostly just snow), but there's no reason you...
Yeah, I really did enjoy my Jag to some degree and was looking at the 4.2 cars, but at the time it was essentially my first real "commuter" car I bought right out of college when I got my job, so I was buying used and had a budget I was trying to stay under. Humorously enough I was originally...
Congrats! From the look of it I believe you have a Mamba edition, which is what the serial number plate is all about. It was a special edition they made with some interior changes, but mechanically the same as the other cars of the same generation. Looks like a nice car, hope it treats you well!
I actually came from a 2000 XKR when I bought my 04 Viper. Probably not quite apples to apples with your 4.2, but I found the Jag to be very boring to drive every day and not really well suited for performance driving. It had some gusto if you really asked it of it, but it felt more like the...
If they are anything like the gen 3/4, the adjuster was on the inside of the engine bay on the inner fender under a little rubber cap. I would maybe poke around up there to start with. Wish I had one I could go look at, but guessing someone on here will chime in at some point with a more...
Cool, let us know if it works out! Always good to find some more resources to keep these cars on the road. I went the aftermarket route with mine when my rear shocks looked a little wet around the edges, but kept the stock ones in the box just in case for down the road.
If I remember correctly the original shocks were built by Suspension Dynamics. I haven't had much luck when searching the name on Google though, so it might be much more of an OEM type company or maybe they just aren't around anymore. That being said, I think they still looked like something...
They aren't that bad, probably even better with stock exhaust if I remember right. The upper bolt and the wiring can be moderately annoying to get to, but it's pretty open under the starter itself, so easy to get it out once you get everything disconnected.
Sounds like a bad relay somewhere. The radio shutting down makes sense as most cars will disconnect auxiliary loads during cranking to give as much power as possible to the starter and computer, though the ding does sound interesting. Looks like there is a relay in the power distribution...
Glad you got it fixed! That's a pretty weird one though, but I guess that's kind of how electronics are anymore. Stuff you wouldn't think is related at all can cause some funky issues. The fog light switch in my turn signal stalk was acting up once and allowing the fog lights to come on...
Hey, if it works for you then awesome! Always happy to see someone enjoying their car and using them regularly. And honestly I'd take any Viper over no Viper at this point, regardless of others say. I love driving my mom's 94 just as much as my 04. It's just a really neat unique experience...
Yeah, behind the bottom of the alternator. Not the easiest thing to get to, but shouldn't have to take anything apart. You will need a big socket for it though. I don't believe it was the typical rounded corner oil pressure socket style, but you will still need a deep set one to clear the...
Yeah, that sounds more like a console plug kind of message than a seat one to me. I would have thought if a seat was unplugged that the message would be more directly related to that. That error code almost looks more like the module isn't showing up on the bus, which would have me looking at...
I thought I heard something like that in my 04 before, but have since upgraded it to a gen 4 diff. A fluid change probably can't hurt though, would be the first thing I'd try.
Someone else was posting something like this recently. I don't recall exactly what was going on, but sounded like it was a UConnect update problem or something to that effect. I think you can manually update those with a USB drive (at least my parents' Challenger and Ram had that option)...
I've had my sensor go bad once in a really easy to spot way. When it failed it would show 25 psi with the key on and the engine not even running and carried that offset all the time, which gave me numbers very similar to what you are seeing. Yours might not be that extreme, but you could see...
It's really just because of the lack of a quality top in my eyes. The gen 2 windows do make that easier to deal with, but the tops for either generation aren't exactly the best quality when it comes to keeping the weather out. I guess maybe they aren't all that different from the T-tops of...
Unfortunately we just haven't really had the opportunity to put any together for a while now. We've been dealing with getting the club's finances fixed after the major issues we had a while back and are happy to report that on that front at least we are all clear and back to normal operation...
40k is considered high miles nowadays? That's kind of scary. For a 20 year old car that's only 2,000 miles a year, which seems in line for what I might expect of a fun summer car. The good thing is that Vipers are built very well and put up with miles pretty great compared to most other high...
Someone else was posting in the gen 3/4 forums that was having a lot of issues tracking down a starting problem. Don't recall exactly what he found in his diagnosis, but I thought he was seeing some weird stuff where he could more or less manually jump the car by powering a relay or something...
