    GTS fuel filter

Yikes! It could have been worse, but thankfully the car exhaust was cool when the fuel filter parted company with the fuel line, subsequently drenching the the rear bottom with gas. I changed the filter just 200 miles ago, and never had a problem like this before. The filter and clip on the...

    Sebring 12 hrs.

Well, it ain't like the old days. Only one Viper GTS-R showed for a 32nd place with 121 laps completed. The car driven by Weikardt/Belloc/Allen held on though. Not bad for a "vintage" car. What is the GTS-R design age now, about 7 or 8 years old? Come on DC, it's time. It should be mentioned...

When to replace front O2 sensors

My 97 GTS now has over 50,000 miles on the clock. I have two questions: (1)Is there a prescribed mileage to change out O2 sensors with new ones. (2)My front (up stream) sensors have extra long wires (a non stock item supplied by a former engine builder who shall remain nameless). Anyone got a...

    Gen II Throttle Adjustment Problem

Searching for a solution to a low speed running problem. The car has a tendency to "lope" at low RPM causing a jerky driving condition. Changed all the plugs. Checked all the ignition wires etc and now am out of ideas. Recalling that the Generation "I" had a similar problem that related to...

    Time for a belt change?

My 97 GTS is about to turn 50,000 miles. I got wondering about when the original serpentine belt should be replaced. Looked in the owners manual for a recommendation, but found nothing. Any suggestions?

    Clutch fluid keeps turning dark

I try and keep fresh fluids on board all season. I have noticed that even after repeated flushing and a clean refill, the fluid in my clutch reservoir turns dark in as little as 2 or 3 hundred miles of moderate driving. Because I am not running the car on the track, I have been using the...

    GTS hatch high speed problems?

There is a simple solution, roll up the windows and turn on the AC. I would bet if you stuck your face out the window at 180 MPH you would blow out your lips etc as well Seriously though, don't run high speed with the windows down on a GTS

    Speedometer recalibration

There are speedometer recalibration units available for non stock gear ratios that splice in to the electric sending unit. I got mine from Jon B. at the Parts Rack.

Looking for info on 00 Oreca vipers

Yes, the Oreca Vipers were forced to run with both extra ballast and engine air restrictor plates in 2000 ALMS series. Not sure how much ballast was used. 2000 was a great year of racing between Vipers and Vets. Of course, we all know the outcome! Source: www.automobilemag.com/news/696.html

    Spark plugs? Recommendations?

General consensus is that nothing works better than the stock RC12LYC Champion plugs, unless you have detonation problems, in which case you might try a cooler NGK FR5-1. I like to change mine about every 8 to 10 thousand miles. I can Get Champions usually for about a dollar each. Platinum...

HMS offering "No Money Down" !?

Re: HMS offering \"No Money Down\" !? No Rock, this is not a new H.M.S policy. After all, H.M.S or any other shop for that matter (if they have your car) could could put a "mechanics lean" on the car until the bill is paid if necessary. A healthy business should only need your car as collateral...

    Backlash

Factory recommends between .005" and .008" inches for the differential ring gear. It has always seemed that there is an excessive amount of lash in the stock setup. Anyone running them on the tight side with out problems?

    Viper Magazine Tech Notes BS

What a bummer to hear Herb Hibling say in his latest Viper Magazine (Winter 2002 Tech Notes) that "throttle hang" is "normal" after a owner states that his car hangs at about 1500-1700 RPM, and has to use the brakes to bring the car down to a normal idle. There is no 2 stage detent or whatever...

Gas mileage for Viper owners with heavy right foots?

I am getting about 11/13 MPG around town stop & go low speed, 17 MPG on HWY @ 45/55 with passing, and 22/23 MPG on interstate cruising at a steady 70/75 MPH. The tank holds 19 gallons Max. I wouldn't advise running it to low. I would expect a realistic range of about 200 miles in town & stop and...

Aluminum Frame? Has anyone built one?

George, I can't argue with the expense factor of hydroformed materials being prohibitive, but I have read in the Aluminum Association Journal "there are many forms of joining and working aluminum, some of which include gas-metal-ark (GMA) and gas-tungsten arc (GTA) welding, mechanical fastening...

    Intake Gasket Failure? Advice Needed...

Many 96 & some 97 Vipers had defective intake manifold gaskets. Since that time Chrysler has re-designed the gaskets and recommends they be changed. I believe there was a TSB on this subject, but I can't find it. Unless you have a extended warranty, I doubt the will replace them for free.

Mine deflates over time too. At least on the drivers side. No one ever uses the one on the passenger side. I figure I'm saving that one for pair parts!
