I had a code come up last weekend, left bank lean on 96 gts. I recently took the cats off, but I read on the internet the 02's don't needs sims on 96's. Is that true? I am trying to figure out if the 02 sensor is bad or if me having nots cats is causing the intermitent cel. Do you have to get these 02's from the dealer?

If they are the originals, it's probably time to replace 'em. 30k+ mileage?? You don't have to get them from dealer. But it's highly recommended to get OEM's. Call JonB or Tator. They can ship them right out. Discount's to VCA members too!

The front sensors before the cats tune the engine right? So short of changing flow characteristics through the engine by removing the cats, and the fact the engine has to re-tune itself to this condition, what do the cats have to do with a lean condition? And do not the rears have nothing to do with tuning, simply cat performance?

Synopsis... Replace sensor as has been said.

A misfire can set a "bank lean" code - that code actually results in the car running rich. The PCM goes open loop and very rich until te code resets itself.

OK. Got it. But what does removing the cats or not have to do with this? Just curious, as the cats are downstream from all of this tuning activity, short of reducing upstream back pressure when removed and changing the flow through the engine slightly.
