Can someone explain why people put a cooler thermostat in their cars? I thought engines were more efficient at higher temps?

The Viper runs EXTREMELY rich from the factory already so unless you have done something to lean out the A/F dramaticly this will only make it worse IMHO.

The 170 thermostat should be installed along with the DC Reflash of the ECM. This will keep the A/F ratio where it should be. It also will have your engine running cooler which will give you a cooler cabin temperture, cooler A/C, and more power. Dan at D C performance can do the reflash so that engine will be tuned for any mods that you have done to your engine. The reflash will also make your fan come on at a lower temperture and the fan will cycle longer. Give dan a call to discuss at :

Hey Mark,

Would installing a set of Belanger headers (or others) help lean the air fuel ratio?

The headers will a little, the computer will compensate for quite a bit though and the Gen3 factory header is much better than the Gen2 so you won't see as much gain on the stock setup. If you are supercharging though you will see a much more drastic change so be careful.

A set of Stryker heads are in the future for this car, so headers, high flow cats and mufflers should work better with them than the stock exhaust set up.
