Normally, you only hear the fuel pump for 1.5 sec on startup. Unless the pressure leakdown has failed, and then it "whines" all the time.

I suspect it takes 2-3-4 attempts to start it. Diagnosis confirmed.

A new pump includes the entire module with pump, sender, etc and you have to remove the fuel tank to install. Kind of a bugger job. Dodge's list price is $549....PartsRack is $409.

I also have a used one.......if so, $300. But a lot of work to swap again if the used one is worn.......

Mine also makes a fair amount of noise. But it hasn't failed and the car always starts on the first shot. It's whined for about a year (since I got the car) so I've never known anything else but a whiny one. I think I'll wait to replace it when it fails if you have to take the tank off to do it.
