Two Questions:

First, I have a deposit down at my dealer for a 2008 Viper. I have reviewed most all of the relevant threads re the 08 model and the current rumors can be summarized as follows: (1) No 2007 model, (2) 2008 model with production start estimates from as early as Jan 2007 to mid-summer 2007, (3) possible engine upgrades from 550-650 hp courtesy of DCX or in consult with outside firm such as McLaren (either the US company or the Formula 1 outfit), (4) possible modifications to hood (more vents etc) and front fascia, (5) suspension, tires etc otherwise unchanged from current 2006 model, (6) potential price bump up to $95-$100K. Is this summary accurate? I noted that there was no information on the 08 model at VOI9.

Second, in a few weeks I will be doing a fair amount of driving in the Sonoma wine country as well as traveling the corridor from San Francisco to and from that area (in an Audi A8, not a Viper). I will be bringing my Valentine 1 radar detector along for the trip. Can people who live in this area or who are familiar with the roads in these areas weigh in on whether the V1 will be a fairly good preventative measure (or, for example, are police relying more heavily on laser?) and whether there are particular areas of road I should be more careful both in terms of safety and law enforcement? Thanks for your input.

In the San Francisco Area, I have NEVER seen police or highway patrol with radars... except for the national park areas.

Who do you have the deposit with? Make sure it's a Viper-competant dealership.

2008 Viper - rumors ... accurate information = paradox. No one knows what DCX will offer or when, except perhaps a few DCX executives. But we expect a product that will regain uncontested "King of the Hill" status.

CHP have radar and use it in areas targeted to slow traffic as well as when they feel like it.

Northern CA VCA has a VCA dinner/meeting Oct. 3rd in San Jose, join us if you can.
