Re: 2001 model Viper w/ no CARFAX history prior Jan \'07 ?
That is odd. I have never heard of that. Probably a
glitch in Carfax.
No - carfax ***** the big one. By law carfax can only report
what insurance companies and/or state officals report to the
VIN. If you ever run a carfax report there is a liitle button
[Is this your car or was it your car] - you press it and it
asks all this detailed infromation about the car? Ever noticed
that there is no way to obtain the information others write?
Some states - like that little one on the west coast...
cali-something... don't report anything to carfax either DMV or
police. [edit] - cali did join carfax in 2004 - Bonks[/edit] Some states
report everything. The simple reality is that carfax can only
be about 80% accurate. Once a year to amuse myself I buy unlimited
reports and enter in all 36 cars I've owned to see their progress.
As of last April, according to carfax, I still owned 12 of those
cars and still haven't taken possesion of my Ram - and Delaware
does report.
Carfax is a great tool - the information it does have is pretty
much accurate, but don't for a second take thier word for it. The
single best way of finding out if a newer car has been in a wreck
is to check it's warranty status through the manufacturer - even
if it has 110,000 miles on it.
