in the same R & T the srt-10 vert and the zo6 vette both posted better road course times than the Ford gt(given not by much), yes the testing data may show one slightly better than the other. All of these cars are VERY capable and powerful and, the competition is so close. the winner of a road course competition i believe will ultimately be won by the better driver. The f-gt does have the top speed hands down f-gt/212mph, srt-vert/196mph, zo6/197mph. the topend numbers are nice bragging rights but in the real world(mine at least) these will never be seen i've only had my srt-vert to 170mph(top down).

This was your comment..."The current Z06 already beats, or ties, the FGT in every way except top speed".

Personally...I do the mile runs..and 1320's...and use measuring devices to record or check specific times...30-100, 0-60..etc. I don't race on the street...normally. This has nothing to do with your comment. Not looking for a major argument here...just asking where you got the info to make the above statement. We are all car guys...and Viper guys here. Enough of the FGT and Z. It's all good.

what you do feel on the streets is acceleration, handling, braking, and road feel.
in the acceleration dept, the z is noticeably quicker to 100, and to 150 than the viper, and fgt is considerably quicker than both.
the fgt is rated at 550hp, but they usually dyno in the 540's which shows they are very under rated from the factory. also very easy to mod. exhaust, smaller pulley, tuning, and voila, another easy 75 hp or so. cheap too.
this is what we will be up against when the BD comes out s/c'ed. theyre so easy to get hp from.

Agree with all you said. But how much more can that 427 block stand...after S/C? And it is still a small block...punched out big time. And they will have alot of work to do to get the drivetrain to handle that power. There are problems now, at 500hp. The '08 Viper will have 600+ out of the box....and very easy to get that to 700 and 800.

And I would add...my FGT dyno'd at 531 stock. After Headers...FRP exhaust...SCT power tune...pulley....I was near 700 at the wheels.

and i agree with u, 585.
not sure what engine they are going with for the BD. right now, the z has an 11:1 CR, so going sc is a bit tricky.
i would imagine the BD will have a lower CR and if so, u can work off of that.
i think your fgt is just awesome. thats my favorite car in the world. a supercar that any of my ford racing buddies can disassemble and reassemble the engine again..:)
i agree u can do a lot with the viper, but the question is money. for the srt-10, NOT having forged internals is a HUGE blunder as far as im concerned, and limits what you can do at a REASONABLE cost.
why does such an exclusive performance car have cast pistons???

I know...on the cast pistons. It has caused me many problems.lol. I really don't have a good answer. I am hoping we see forged on the '08.

"The performance level and capabilities of these types of cars cannot be explored on the street without doing something dumb, dangerous or a good combination of both! "

Damn, I think I qualify. And I think you can bear witness.

Ha ha, great quote!!

Same here, by the way ;-)

Re: 2008 viper....deposits? -- Problem is with Mercedes and image!

The real issue (and I am sure everyone will agree) .. is that Mercedes does not want any Dodge vehicle (especially the Viper) to gain a higher status than their flagship Mercedes line..

DC wants to keep Mercedes (AMG vehicles and cars like the SL-500 etc) as their image car.

They are purposly keeping the Dodge Viper second or even third fiddle in the sports car market.

I really wish the merger never happended.

DC .. please ... unite Dodges hand (and let Dodge borrow some skilles craftsman and engineers) and let them go after the high end sports car market!!!!!!

I'm sure all of the sponser dealers will accept your deposit. Expect to begin at MSRP of $95-100k (up $5-10k from current model) or roughly $20k more than what you can buy the current model for.

Unless you simply have to have an '08 model, I don't see paying $20k for 100hp.

But....many will....count me in!! The smart guys will wait till August '07 and get them for 85-88k probably. I'm not smart.

That is one of the funniest responses in this thread.

Diamondback was/is a concept car that was created by ASC & McLaren, may have some hints of the the next car(it may not). The current Z06 already beats, or ties, the FGT in every way except top speed. The BlueDevil/SS is rumored to be $100k, the mark up over and above sticker for someone to be first on the block is not relevant, the time and energy that have gone into the development will not be wasted on only 1 or even 2 yrs(and more than likely made till the C7 comes out) of production if you want want eventually you will get one at or below sticker. I know of at least one dealership that i could get a Ford GT from right NOW with no problem at $10,000 BELOW sticker price. The new Viper at $100k+ in my mind is getting to be priced way too high above the average Dodge product. It has been proved in quite a few cars that when a car, even a halo car is priced too high above the average product in a manufacturers line the cars do not sell all that well. With examples being the Carrera GT, MB SLR, VW Phaeton, Ford GT. Yes eventually they all get sold i do know of a few Carrera GT's that could be had at one point for $40k off the sticker price. Dealers dont want to sit too long with a $400k nut on their show rooms for too long!

That is a very good point and the point with the CGTs is excellent. I have seen LOW mileage cars go for as low at $325,000.
