Delmarva Vipers is hosting another visit to the Dover Air Force Base
Mobile Air Command Museum on Saturday, October 29th. This is an
open event so everyone is welcome to attend!

PLEASE let me know if you definitely plan to attend as early as possible
- I will need to inform both the Museum and Restaurant of headcount
so they will be prepared.

The AMC Museum is located on the grounds at Dover AFB and
features retired examples of a range of transport aircraft from the
small U3 Blue Canoe up to the massive C141 Starlifters. While not as
flashy as the Bombers and Fighters featured at some bigger
museums, the planes here are much more massive and, unlike the
bigger museums, the staff here go out of their way to let you explore
the aircraft inside and out. On our last two visits the curator was even
kind enough to open up the back lot and allow us to drive in and pose
our cars with the aircraft. It was an amazing experience, everyone
seemed to have a great time.

The museum recently acquired "Air Force 2" - a recently retired
VC-9 Nightingale that was used as the main transport for Vice
Presidents and VIP Officials. While it is unlikely the aircraft will
be finished with preservations by our event, it should be in the field
for photo opportunities.

We are looking to arrive around 10am and begin our tour by 11am.
There are no fees to attend or park and, because the museum is
relatively small, you can explore a good portion of it in under two
hours. Our photo sessions with the aircraft tend to take a bit longer.
Afterwords we like to visit a restaurant right next to the Delaware
Capital building for a late lunch - it's good food by good people, and
out of the way with a nice large parking lot. We encourage you to
bring folding chairs and coolers as you will be standing on concrete
for several hours.

Feel free to email me directly or post here with questions.

Just a quick reminder bump - rain forcasts are still way too far out, but
temperature wise looks to be mid 60s. I have six confirmations and six
'maybes' so (weather permitting) it looks like we have a real chance of
making our 16 car goal!

Spoke to several people at the crab cruise today. Looks like this should be a well attended event. See you all there!

Is there a provision if it rains? Hate to ask, but weather forecast didn't look to great for this weekend.

We'll use Sunday as the rain date but, considering its unlikley
the weather will improve for the rest of the year, if it does rain
both days we'll just cancel the meet as an "event." Rain or
shine I think there are a couple of us who will still show, but
I understand that most would be hesitiant.

So if there's a good chance for rain on Saturday we'll move it
to Sunday same time. And if we move it to Sunday - I will be
there regardless. Also for Sunday we may have to cancel or
move lunch as Fraizers usually hosts brunches which pack
the place.

They are now calling for a 70% chance of rain on Sat. It's supposed to be sunny and 55 degrees on Sunday. Any way of making the call now and moving it to Sunday?

Spoke to Bonkers this morning, because of the weather, "Snakes under a plane" is postponed until Sunday 10-30.

Just a heads up -

Everyone should pay attention to what this front does - they
are calling for 1-2 inches of snow Saturday which, in Delaware,
means plows, school days, but more importantly fresh salt...

Salt that will not have washed away by Sunday.

The issues are north and west of New Castle county. Dover area should be fine. Actually I am not buying this snow issue at all anyway. Just a slow news time and this is something they can blab about.

So VDOT pretreated the roads today in Loudoun County, mostly the hills and bridges, but they all have a nice coating of salt now :(

That's cutting off about 6-8 weeks of my planned driving season unless that crap washes off. I've had vehicles destroyed by road salt and I'm not going to let that happen to my snake!

:omg:

We have about 3 to 4 inches of snow in Frederick, but the sidewalks and roads have not had to be plowed since they are warm enough that they are melting the snow. I am praying that they don't plow/salt the roads.....

Glad to hear to salt/sand in Virginia, Maryland a different story though. Plows came through a little while ago salting roadways. As long as it's not too bad and the roadways are clear in my neighborhood tomorrow, I should be good.

Just a dusting on the mulch and low grassy areas. Nothing but wet on the roads here in Delaware. Looks like it might be all gone! It is about 6pm now and we will have all night to dry out. See you tomorrow!

You guys got lucky Steve. I was just out and about. Roads are soaked and salted our way. Temperature right now at 34 degrees and dropping to 27 degrees. I doubt our roads will be dry and with mapquest having my drive time at 2 hours 41 minutes, I will probably have to miss again this year. Hope you guys have a great time and stay warm.
