Aaargh! Correct part #, wrong part in bag = Aaargh!

About a month ago my driver's side power window stopped working with the window down. Quick search of this forum taught me it the white plastic piece on the regulator had probably broken. Few weeks ago I opened the door up and that is what it was. I repaired it by drilling four small holes through the broken part into the big piece still attached to the regulator and expoxying it together using very small finish nails as reinforcements in the four small holes. Repair was a success and after letting it sit for awhile I starting putting the door back together last weekend only to find the door opener switch is broken. Worked for a while to repair it but after the fourth time the little plastic post sproinged across the garage and I could not find it I realized I needed a new switch. Called the dealer two miles away and ordered the switch (coming from Texas I believe). Made a couple calls to see if I could find a used one but it was New Years weekend so that was futile and I decided to shut the project down until this weekend when the new switch would be here. Go to dealer this morning and there is my little plastic bag with the correct part number and the description "door switch." Tear open the bag and AAAaaarrrggghhh - what is in there looks like the plastic interior trim plugs that is like the plugs that go over the hole in the interior door sill area to cover up the access holes for the side sill screws - only bigger and beige. I don't even think a Viper ever had the interior color beige so who knows where it came from (Gen I maybe?). Whatever I'm screwed. Not finishing the repair today. But mother nature is helping by raining and making me not feel so bad the Viper is down. Sometimes this hobby is a PITA. Oh and to top it all off, the switch retails for $82 !!! And my parts guy at the dealer who gave me wholesale prices re-joined the Marines so he could go to Iraq. At least I talked the new guys into a deal since the delayed me. Aargh!

I did not write the part number down but sounds like it. It is a small box, probably .75" x .75" x .25" with a rubber booted post sticking out one side and the wires sticking out the other side. Guess they were yanking me on the price (nothing new). I'll call you.

I know the holiday may have precluded your inquiry, but I again appeal to you to PLEASE THINK OF TATOR, PARTSRACK, etc etc Venders who try to support you all here, and in time of need. We need your business, thanks.

PS PartsRack produces the white regular pieces that FREQUENTLY BREAKS....., NOT AVAIL FROM DODGE !!!! Dont buy a $400+ regulator when our $89 part will fix it. THANKS

Re-ordered the part from my local dealer and went to get it today. it is really close, but very different. I called Chuck Tator and he verified my dealer is using the right part number but did not have a switch in hand to describe what it looked like. Jon B is on a road trip so I gave Paul Scharff in Wisconsin a call. He had a used switch, pulled it off the shelf and when I described it confirmed it is the correct one. He is overnighting it and I will finally be on the road in the great cool winter weather. Called Chuck Tator back for a debrief and we think we might know the answer: the 4848150 part number looks like it is for the forward/interior handle, and that the switch I needed only come as part of a nearly $200 entire rearward/exterior handle assembly. I will check my front switch and see if I can verify. Vipers are strange cars to buy parts for.

OMFG sometimes my own stupidity utterly amazes me. At least no one got hurt and it did not cost me any extra money.

1) Called Paul Scharff (1,500 miles away in BFE Wisconsin) at 2:30 my time yesterday and had the correct part at my front door at 10:30 this morning. Paul, the Viper community, and UPS are amazing.

2) here comes the dumb part. My local dealer has been trying very hard to help me so I went back to show them what the correct part looks like. I took my camera to to take a picture of the two switches side-by-side. a) camera batteries were dead. I think I got one pic before they totally died but need to charge batteries before I can **** the picture out as my computer does not have a card reader. b) parts guy and I compared the two and the female harnes plug on the other end is an exact match, the hard mount on the wire run that keeps if from flopping around in the door is identicle, but the switch has a male fitting weather seal instead around the whle box of the little miniature red boot with plastic plunger sticking out of the box. We played with it for awhile and WOW did I feel like a dumba$$ when we figured out that the male fitting weather seal was merely a dummy that was being used as a shipping protector to keep the little red boot protected during shipping (I had squeezed the male fitting weather strip but could not feel the boot/plunger). When you peeled the male fitting weather seal off you could immediately see the part #4848150 is the correct part. DOH! I'm an idiot and my dealer took awhile to help a "slow" guy out.

3) Good news is the dealer wanted to charge me $70 + tax, but Paul charged me $25 + $45 shipping so I ended up with the correct part in time to work on it today for a few dolars less money (dealer was cool and did not make me prepay). And nobody lost an eye or anything like that (just their pride).
