There has been talk of a "BLUE DEVIL" for years at "Chevy Land" and thats all it's been is just talk. I think the real Blue Devil is Dave Hills Halloween costume!

General Motors vice chairman Bob Lutz won’t confirm this car exists, but he is not saying it doesn’t. We first wrote about Chevrolet’s ultra-performance Corvette—dubbed Blue Devil, most likely to catch the attention of GM CEO and Duke Blue Devil grad Rick Wagoner—shortly before the sixth-generation Corvette debuted at the Detroit auto show in January (AW, Dec. 22 and 29, 2004). We asked Lutz about the car during a recent exclusive interview with AutoWeek.

“Let’s just say [Corvette chief engineer] Dave Hill is not a guy who likes playing second fiddle to any high-performance car on the road,” said Lutz. “My guess is we’re going to find a way to do something beyond the Z06, that would be at a much higher price point, and which would compete with some of the leading high-performance cars of the world.”

Lutz said the car may be delayed while the company focuses most of its engineering might on pulling ahead profit-making vehicles like its next-generation large sport/utilities and pickups.

“But there is certainly no lack of desire on anyone’s part to establish the supremacy of the Corvette,” says Lutz.

Spied on the Nurbürgring, Blue Devil appears to be living up to the earlier hype. Eyewitnesses said the car sounds supercharged, confirming reports the engine is likely a blown version of the Z06’s 7.0-liter V8, producing upward of 600 hp. Look for lightweight carbon fiber body parts to reduce weight to about 2900 pounds.

Pricing will likely start somewhere around $100,000 if and when the car makes production in 2006.

600HP Z06 Corvette in 2008 - Base Model jumps to 450HP also

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1164585&forum_id=100

And those are pictures of a regular Z06 not the Blue Devil. That article is over two months from July of 05. Dave Hill (Corvette chief engineer) and the new rags including Sept 05 Motortrend have confrimed that it is a plain Z06.

You're wasting your breath. I posted a month agothat it wasn't the Blue Devil (no high rise hood that is NEEDED for the blower) and the it 3was the Base Z06 that ran the 7:45 at the ring. Still no one believes it, I guess the truth will be known when the Z06 hits the streets.

Regardless it is AWESOME that America has 3 great cars to choose from whatever your taste. :2tu:

I’ve been reading this thread. That’s typical of GM to wait a
year or two and come out with something that makes the
previously “new” models worthless. They did it with the
GTO and with the SSR. I guess they’re going to do it with
the Vette also.

So far, Dodge has done it right by only increasing Viper HP in
conjunction with a new generation car. Lots complain that
the 2006 Viper has no power increase but I’d be happy if a
power increase was reserved until Gen-4. I think that’s the
way it should be. Doing it the Dodge way makes good business
sense and is the right thing to do for the Viper owners. Doing it the
GM way is like a kid who refuses to wait until Christmas to open
his presents. Meanwhile, GM owners get pissed. If I owned
a 5.7 GTO or 5.7 SSR, I would be livid after GM decides to
put 6.0’s in the new models.

While I agree that is crappy to boost power only a yr after introduction, but atleast they are giving the consumer options. DC is sitting doing nothing in response to the Z06 and the GT500.

So you would rather wait several years to get a HP boost so you car won't depreciate as quickly??

To each their own.....

I’m not in favor of a knee-**** reaction just to stay in front.
DC could have easily gotten 50hp just by tuning the
ECU. If DC waits until Gen-4 to do anything major, then
that’s fine with me. Doing it that way does helps current
owners knowing that all Gen-2 will be 450hp, all Gen-3 will
be 500hp, etc. I think that goes a long way towards owner
loyalty and buyer’s confidence.

If you want to buy with risk that your vehicle will be rendered
out-of-date and obsolete in a year or two – then buy GM.

BTW – you guys need to learn how to post so that your text
won’t go into the right-hand side of the screen cause when
it does, nobody wants to read it.

I think it was a joke and you missed it. :)

Besides I overheard a SRT owner the other day tell his buddy in the booth next to me that "Next year DC is relasing a 750hp Hemi Viper that will "Put the Z06 in it's place"."

There are uneduated people in every car group, all to can do is laugh and shake your head.
