I dropped off four sets of calipers at the machine shop, they'll be done in about a week. While they are apart is the time to powdercoat them; a local shop does them for $100, and of course, you pick the color. Otherwise, the resizing of the OEM brakes to 40mm is $630.

The 40mm conversion of the non-ABS rear caliper provides much improved brake balance and avoids the typical front wheel lock-up. If anyone's interested, has questions, is curious about what this is, or wants them later (end of summer timing?) please PM or email me. I have a small info sheet I can send or if you are really interested, I can email you a 1Mb explanation of how to rebuild them yourself.

The procedure that works for everyone: I send you the rebuilt calipers, you do the switch and make sure your car is up and running again (there are little springs and things to make sure you have) and then send me your old ones and $630. Sorry, I can't find used ones fast enough to keep up, so I'm doing this on an exchange basis only.

That's a great deal Tom. And I'm hearing great things about them. I'm still considering but just having pulled the trigger yet. Keep in touch.

Thanks, Chuck.

Explanation of "end of summer timing:"

In the normal process I resize old calipers to 40mm, replace the rubber or worn out parts, and you end up with fully functional brakes from the previous customer. This means your down time is only as long as it takes to replace the calipers.

Some folks with pristine cars or a wish to keep their own calipers have asked about sending in their calipers and getting the same ones back. (The rear calipers are ugly ducklings, and without any OEM paint or coating, they also look a little different from caliper to caliper or with age.) That's fine, except it takes about a 3 week turnaround time and doing only one set will cost more. Due to set-up time charges, I get a more reasonable rate from the machine shop if I bring in at least four sets of calipers.

The good news is that there are already 4 interested in doing this, so we probably have the minimum quantity issue handled. I'll keep posting and see if we can eventually coordinate a mutually convenient date for a "winter turnaround" and have everyone that wants their originals back send them in at the same time. Let me know if you're interested and I will make sure to keep you up to date.

Hey Guys for what it is worth I just had Toms rear brakes installed by Chuck tator about 2 weeks ago and a 1000 miles later, and all i can say is they really work and what a difference. Best investment on my Viper yet.
