Well after a night of street racing, beat 2 modified 03 cobras both low 11 sec. cars and one turbo LS1 Trans Am on highway pulls, i started hearing problems!!
here's what i know:
-did miss 2 shifts. was not flat shifting and did not hit the limiter.
-after the last race started to hear a real loud tap coming from the motor and it was missing faintly.
-pulled into a parking lot to pop the hood and sounds like its coming from inside the valve covers.
-started the car after about 20 minutes of talking and the tap had gone down, but now the car is popping out of the intake and missing worse.
-i will be pulling the valve covers off tomorrow and will update my findings but i would like some suggestions on what to look and feel for.
it is a heffner car with a cam and rockers and so forth....
thanks in advance for all the help.

Good choice to pull rockers covers, BUT if you have bent a valve, you won't see it without taking off the head. With the car idling, can you tell which side is missing?

If you bent a valve, a compression test will tell you which cylinder. see if you can hear which side is missing, then get a CR tool from autozone from their loan-a-tool program. it'll take you _maybe_ 15 min to do all 10 cylinders of it is your first time. anyway, once you've done that, you'll know if you have a weaker / dead cylinder. and if you bent a valve, it is a dead cylinder.

Good luck!

if it is popping out of the intake you have a problem with a exhaust valve.Maybe a pushrod thrown off of the rocker.it will pop out if the intake because the combustion pressures have no where to go if the exhaust valve won't open.If you find a pushrod off of a rocker make sure you look at the lifter and make sure it hasen't come apart also

well i have an update.
i did a compression test and found all the cylinders to be inline as far as compression.
with the popping noise, we pulled the valve covers off and found there to be no pushrod in the exhaust side of the cylinder that was creating the popping noise.
we found a piece of the pushrod about 2 inches long and will be pulling off the pan tomorrow to look for the other piece or pieces. hopefully we will find them.
still not sure exactly what happened to cause the pushrod to break, but hopefully Heffner's can ship me out a new one and that will be the only problem.

What kind of Rockers are you running? I am betting they are Crowers(have been known to shift). Just curious. It may have been just a bad pushrod too. You'll need new ones at the very least. Summitracing.com or Jegs.com for the Trickflows(about $115 shipped) are probably your best bet. Good luck.
