The black plastic by my dead-pedal has completely melted off. Exposing an ugly light brown finish. Its the part of the car that the dead pedal can be adjusted against.

Has anyone else had this happen? Does this mean things are getting too hot (just had corsa track installed).

The Corsa Exhausts runs really hot. Zero Alt. has had to replace quite a few side sill plates as vipers with Corsa exhausts have melted the plates. You have three choices here. Replace the exhaust with a setup that runs cooler, wrap the exhaust with heat insulating header wrap, or install a vent in the wheel liner so that cool air is forced into the froint of the side sills so as to allow airflow and cool the pipes

I have the exact same "situation" I won't even call it a problem...

take out the pedal and spray paint with black rust-oleum.

MY dads brand new 05 viper had that problem, its a defect at the factory. Its covered under warranty, they sent him a new one, the slider that shows the rusty service is bolted in, so its easily replaceable with no issues.

Get it done under warranty, has absolutely NOTHING to do with your exhaust temps.

What is the defect? I believe my 03 came with a metal adjuster though I could be wrong. I had it out about 3 years ago and remember the bolt trim caps were plastic.

They didnt paint it all the way, it was like they forgot to finish the job, and so the bare metal rightfull so, since its not stainless steal, started to rust. They replaced it under warranty.

It has to make you wonder for the price of a Viper doesn't it? Maybe they thought they were painting a Neon. My friends side panels rusted out on his RT-10 and DC wanted $6000.00 for new ones. They had never been primered from the factory.

Aluminum won't rust."

Skeeter I never said anything about being steel or aluminum. 2002 Viper GTS said "They didnt paint it all the way, it was like they forgot to finish the job, and so the bare metal rightfull so, since its not stainless steal, started to rust. They replaced it under warranty."

But I will tell you that some forms of low grade aluminum will rust. Just look at the brake and clutch pedals on 2004 and up vipers. If you put a magnet to them the magnet will grab somewhat which means there is iron in the pedals which were to be made form aluminum.

You said that a RT/10 side cover rusted,
the side covers on a RT/10 are aluminum.
Steel and aluminum are not combined as
alloys so what are you talking about low grade
aluminum rusting?

Then please explain why the srt-10 foot pedals are rusty and are made of aluminum? As I said before " If you put a magnet to them the magnet will grab somewhat which means there is iron in the pedals which were to be made form aluminum."

Please explain this to me and to my friends at Zero-Alt-Flite who are making replacment pedals for all the rusty ones that are in the Vipers. Even Jon, at Parts Rack has bought them.

I was not talking about the pedal. I was talking about the black slider mounting framing that comes with it for the dead pedal. The dead pedal itself wasnt rusting.

BTW, Aluminum oxidies, which is a form of "rust"/corossion. So Aluminum isnt perfect, get aluminum around salty conditions and you'll see what i mean. Thats why alumn is usually protected with a clear coat or an anodized coating.

My 2 cents. You can fight robby all you like :) I was just saying the part that the deal pedal attaches to on a gen 3 is made of metal, so it does rust if its not painted, I was not talking about the aluminum pedal itself.

Your 2 cents is well taken and no one is fighting. The pedals on the srt-10 and the rt-10 side panels are made of aluminum as stated above in many posts. The fact is they have rusted, I have seen them myself. You can stick a magnet to the pedals. That tells me there is some iron mixed in the pedals and side panels. Unless I am wrong, and maybe I am, magnets are attracted to iron and iron does rust. I would think you would be happy to hear about these rust/corrosion problems and what has been done about it.
