Are these dents normal on shorty headers?

Acquired a set of OEM shorty headers and was wondering why both sides had dents (clearance?) on the front two cylinders.

Sure they're normal as both right and left side had identical impressions, but since the cast manifolds don't have them was wondering what the purpose was on the shorties...

Thanks

Is there much of a hp increase from the stock Gen I manifold to the newer model tubes?

Correct, cast units weigh 21 lbs each. Shorties, 8.2 lbs each. Rounded exactly 26 lbs.

Back to my original question though, why were these designed with the impressions? I haven't yet found what the clearance issue is...

Thanks
