Autoform Hardtop Installation Question

Trying to install an Autoform hardtop on a 98 RT and having a little bit of a problem. The top itself fits and looks great, but the bracket in front that hold it down doesn't seem to fit. Right under the wheel on the bracket where the attaching wire rides, there is an inward bend of the metal bracket as if it is supposed to slip under something. On my car, and I assume on all '98s, is a plastic body piece attached under the window, behind the door. This does not allow the bracket to mount flush.

While it seems straight forward to straighten or remove this bend in the bracket, I thought I'd check if anyone else had this issue?

I'll call Autoform in the morning, but was hoping to put this thing on tonight and test tomorrow.

Thanks
Bob

Hey Bob,

Rob,

The bracket itself has an approx. 45 degree bend along it to follow the contour under the hood where it mounts. However, right under the roller on the bracket, the metal is bent all the way back around for an unknown purpose. This prevents the bracket from sitting flush.

I would be curious if your bracket is flat or if it has this bend under the roller that fits into something on the '93s.

Kurt,

See ya this weekend even if I have to use duct tape ... and don't forget the bags of money!

Rob ... you da man!

The middle picture you posted shows the end that is curled around and hooks under. On my car, I have a plastic trim piece that covers up this whole area and doesn't allow the bracket to hook under. After seeing your pictures, I removed the trim piece and the bracket fits just fine.

I'll still call Autoform in the morning just to make sure ...

I owe ya!

Thanks

Bob

Cheers for Rob!!! Nice going. Now, if the top will only stay on this weekend at TMS, as I'm sure Bob is going to be carrying some serious speed
