Ok, there's plenty of posts on the battery tray, and the Optimas, but I had a helluva time removing the shield in front of the battery. The screws holding the underbody panel just kept twisting, I hate those fasteners. The screws were completely rusted and the fasteners just spun around with the screws. Not to mention that clip for the shield above the battery. I wish I would have taken a pic before I decimated this shield. So now I FINALLY got the shield off, which seems it was a lot more difficult issue for me than any of you since I really haven't seen any post on it.

My question I guess is did any of you use a different fastener to put the shield back on or different screws or anything? I'd love to put some stainless back in(everywhere there's a rusty bolt visible really), looked up some clips from Moroso as well (parts 71260, 71500, 71440 etc.) Anybody out there with similar problems or suggestions?

Started out just as a quick rear brake job and is turning into a bigger project than I intended.

Re: Battery Shield fasteners *pics*

I hope this works...

This is what I had to work with, nothing but rusty bolts that I could not get out because they seized up or who knows. Besides that, they were just ugly. I've been aching to replace them with some stainless or something when a friend of mine recommended something else. Below are the results, with much(pretty much ALL) of the work done by him:

Started out with this...standard rusty bolts underneath.

Upgraded to this...stainless quick fasteners

battery tray shot, also put stainless bolts in the outer wheel to dress it up a little better

inside right rear wheel, also note I got rid of the cheap factory clip in the corner of the panel and installed a screw type fastener to make it a bit easier to remove and reinstall

I just think it looks better from the back and makes the battery tray a little easier to get in and out of. I guess none of you had the problems I had with all the rusty bolts. I just don't think the previous owner cared for the car as much. Anyhow, comments/suggestions welcome.

Would look REALLY good if I had detailed the car before I took those pics!
