Our small club competes annually in one of the largest car based events in the UK which has TV coverage in '04 there was over 10,000 spectators and have done pretty well in previous years taking individual awards and overall team prizes in the process. The event is run on a old US airbase which has a 2 mile straight apprantly built for a space shuttle emergency landing.

The event has 3 parts, 1/4 mile, a top speed run from a standing start to a beam at 1.2 miles and a handling course, points are gained for competing in all 3 disciplines and trophies awarded like wise

The rear wheel drive class will be pretty tough once again, last years top speed winner was a highly modified Supra that managed 202mph over the 1.2 miles on street tires ! Its returning with even more bhp this year... There are quite a few big name after market tuners cars entered mainly Japanese, all the vehicles have to be road legal, running street legal tires

This years UK ViperClub Speed Team consists of 5 runners all GTS's, 3 of which post here:
Nadine in her SR S/C
Carl in his SR S/C with heads, first outing after major work
Joel in his DC Performance Paxton S/C
:2tu:

(non-forum)
Steve Kingshott who a few may know from the VOI's and his bright stripey suits, in his 'all motor' DC Performance tuned car and Arthur running his stock car.

Theres a bit of info here

and a live webcast on sunday at

Goodluck to them all :headbang:

just back from Baz's after another great weekend, cool to witness both Joel and *** get new PB's at the strip on saturday :2tu: Congrats  espicially after the rain offs all year, although it looked like rain was due this weekend, it held off when it mattered.

1st run:
Joel said he'd 'take it easy' his first 1/4 mile run since the mods and not sure what to expect. The lights changed, he seemed to have a hard time getting traction off the line even though he was running BFG drag radials, *** as usual made a great start and got a couple of cars length in front and pulled away, while Joel waited for the tyres to grip...around 75% of the tarmac covered and *** was still maintaining her lead when Joel seemed to go into wrap drive and closed the gap very quickly and then flew past ***. That last section was truely amazing to watch, which gave a 10.8 and a terminal speed 147mph

*** got quicker each run and ended up at 11.3 before we had to pack up and leave for the main event. I jumped in with Joel for the trip North, nice and relaxed on the motorway no fuss, no nonsense just like a 'normal' viper except a different exhaust note, and a lovely whistle from the SC (900bhp at the wheels !) Just a couple of neck braking bursts of speed en route upto the legal speed limit :D

We arrived to a wet track at 6pm, it was raining and it continued to drizzle all night (we were camping). In the morning it was overcast and cold, cars were arriving and we could see the queues building up outside, big crowds once again

Through out the day everyone ran pretty consistant times, great entertainment watching Carl (his first ever track event in the viper) give his S/C GTS the beans off the line on pilot sports, the car snaking up the track, time for some sticky'er rubber bit of a shock I think for Carl as he lined up to next to *** doing a smokey burnout to heat the tyres. Later in the day Carl acheived 188mph Steve was happily doing run after run, Arthur and his son were having fun to in the SRT, Arthur said his 18 year old was running faster 1/4's. *** unfortunatley was experiencing a 'lean' light from one the dash guages so she didnt get the top speed time she was hoping for (although on the way home she figured out it was a VEC2 loose wire problem...)

During the afternoon it was announced Joel had cracked the 200 barrier on his first and only top speed run, and was leading overall - 200.2mph luckly the subaru from Iceland (not the frozen food people) was stuck at 199mph. The tweaked supra last years winner was playing up with numerouus problems a broken prop shaft meant it didnt manage a top speed run. The sun finally came out and the track warmed up.

Into the 1/4 rear wheel drive shootout finals, Joel qualified as one of the fastest 4 finalists, the other being the supra and turbo'd bussa dax, the 4th spot guy didnt make it in time, so Joel had a by straight into the final. So in the semi it was supra v dax, the mighty speed pushed the supra into the final...

The final came. Joel in the right hand lane got his best start I'd seen all weekend, finally taming the wheelspin and sharply set off down the 1/4, must of been a great 60 time, leaving the supra who had bogged down on the line slightly. It looked good for viper victory !!! until 4th gear change, Spud unfornately cocked it up and the Supra on the power sneaked in at the line, beating Skunk by .1 of a second. Trophies were dished and Joel came away with 3 shiny lumps of metal, for the fastest attained speed although I beleive when the figures are worked there will be at least one more on the mantlepeice

A great effort from everyone involved, and lots of new UK club records acheived :headbang:
