Changing the pads (EBC GREENS) on my viper noticed that I need knew rotors on the front. My rears are good. Was wondering what kind of rotors are recommended. I will be doing 99% street driving with a track day here and there. Also is there any downfall if I have 2 different kinds of rotors? I was thinking aftermarkets on front and keeping the stock on back.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Not sure why you'd want to change rotors and nothing else. Stock rotors are fairly cheap cost-wise ($80 each, or were last time I looked).

OK, granted, but going to aftermarket (i.e., likely much more expensive) rotors will probably not gain you anything over the stock rotors, without also changing calipers.

I've gone to EBC Greens (and highly recommend them over stock pads), and stayed with everything else stock on both my '95 and my '00. Many people will go to an aftermarket rotor and caliper setup, such as StopTech (or is it "StopTek?), for improved braking and/or feel. But, changing the rotors probably won't gain you anything, at least is my thought.

A fellow club member put on a StopTech setup and sold me his original rotors (less than 4000 miles on them) for a total of $80, so I've got spares when I wear these out (which isn't happening anytime soon).

If you're going with EBC Greens, you aren't out trying to stop on a dime. Find cheap OEM used rotors, there must be a billion people with them on this board.

I'm very happy with the stopping power of the EBC Greens for street and autocross use, especially as compared to stock pads. I also use EBC Yellows on the track, although I'm aware of personal friends that race do not like EBC Yellow for track work, but even they recommend EBC Greens for the street.

However, your phrasing implies you have a different opinion. So, what do you recommend for street pads?

You might want to look at the EBC rotors as well, not that expnesive and clean up the look a lot. I have them with the green pads and feel no diff over stock, not better not worse, the same, but the look is better and not nearly as much dust >>>>

I use EBC greens on the street but I don't fool myself into thinking they are going to stop on a dime. With that in mind I keep my "spirited" street driving within reason.

Contact Steve Pasztor 972-743-9443 for greens.

Randy and Craig are right about the stock rotors. Don't pay more than $100 for the set.

Last year I was in the same situation as you are now.

I bought StopTech rotors and EBC Greens.

My experiences so far :
- EBC Greens are scary. Stock brake pads are WAY better, despite the dust problem.
- one of the StopTech rotors developed a crack, for no particular reason (I only drove the car for like 1,000 miles last year, no track use). StopTech was not willing to back up their product.

My recommendation would be to go for stock parts.

Yves, what kind of crack was it? Small "spider" cracks in the center are acceptable. But if the crack goes all the way out to the edge of the rotor then it needs to be replaced.

Crack is from the outside toward the center. About 1.5 inches. It is dangerous and needs replacement.

Wow, 180-degree opposite experience from mine. In what way were the EBC Greens scary?

In my experience, the EBCs were easily 50% more stopping power than the stock pads, and, on the autocross track, where the stock pads would lock up and you would literally have to lift your foot a good amount off of the brake to release the lock, the EBC Greens would allow modulation of pressure right at the limit - i.e., I could unlock the wheels a lot quicker than the stock pads, and not risk flat spotting tires as a result.

I put EBC Greens on my 2000 RT/10 the day after I bought it exactly because I dislike the stock pads characteristics so much. For the second time, I observed similar improvement over the stock pads.

Its like we're talking about two VERY different pads...

Randy, I'm perfectly happy with Greens on the street, I run them. I just din't want to imply that they are the best braking pad, many others brake better, along with a lot more dust. Pick your poison.

OK, cool. But, I'm still honestly interested in your thoughts. Whats your favorite pad for street? Do they squeak?

My favorite pad for street is EBC Greens. I know they don't brake the best, not as good as OEM, but I have no issues with it and I have way less dust. I painted mine black so they wouldn't look ugly thru the calipers. I also used the 3M Brake resurfacing kit to completely remove old deposits on the rotors, then bedded properly, no squeak ever.
