Generally positive although they make one observation about the drive-by-wire throttle system not shared by some of the other reviews:

"There's now a separate throttle body for each cylinder bank, for the first time employing electronic "by-wire" throttles that do a lot for efficiency and, presumably, emissions (ratings aren't available yet). Unfortunately, they also introduce the all-too-common, underreported throttle lag. Leave the gearbox in neutral and stomp on the accelerator and you'll notice the delay. It's not outrageously long, but it's more than just annoying. This is a car whose mechanical throttle used to leap if you so much as thought about tapping the accelerator, and it's also a car in which the slightest input is critical to controlling trajectory. When you blip the throttle to downshift, you want it to respond now. Re-engage the clutch when the revs aren't quite matched and you risk loosening up the rear end."

Oh no...drive-by-wire throttle lag, this is not a good thing.:omg:
My 2006 has not a bit that's for dang sure. I like it.
Too much tech maybe? Benz went that way.

Even with the lag he mentions, the car still manages to squeeze out some pretty good numbers as we have seen in other tests...

I've got throttle lag in my drive-by-wire pickup truck and it is more than annoying. Enough so to make me look for a vehicle without it.

If people are so obsessed with their misguided "safety" advantages of TC, Tire Pressure Sensors and ABS then a car that doesn't GO when you expect it to go should rank just as high on the danger scale.

I also have it in my E63. The other day I went to accelerate in front of a bus...WAYYY to close for comfort. There is certainly a lag in acceleration and more pronounced when vehicle is cold. Maybe I will hold on to my '05 a bit longer.

This is something new for me. I have experienced turbo lag, but not drive by wire lag. Does the car bog or what?

If I remember correctly, there was a mention of a non-drive by wire option for the track... I think it'll be a VERY popular option, although I don't know if it'll pass emissions.

It is more of a delay reaction. Imagine pressing down on the gas pedal with no response (like a 1-2 second delay) then the car takes off. Feels real weird until you get used to it.
