Chip Question

Hi All,

What chip upgrade do you recommend, how many extra HP and TQ will be gained, and what is the cost?

I have a '97 GTS Viper with the following Mods:
High flow headers
3" pipes from exhaust manifold to tips
smooth tubes
High flow CATS
Short shifter
1" lowering Eibach suspension lowering kit

Any light you could shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

you could use the VEC I or II(Sean Roe i think?) this is much more than a "chip", but you stand to gain more hp.

Has anybody used the AEM? I heard it provides over 100 HP gain, but costs $3K.

You may be missing the best option out there. You asked about a "chip" upgrade and were correctly informed that the Viper does not have a chip. Instead it has an engine control module referred to as a PCM. Up until recently, no one has offered to reprogram the Viper's PCM on a retail basis to the casual owner. About a year ago, West Coast Viper and Jason Tarnutzer have made this mod available to the public at, at least what I consider, a reasonable price...$500. You might want to investigate, there's some threads on the "New Products..." section of the VCA site. I had it done, so did a bunch of others. Money was well spent, I love it!

Cool. What HP and TQ increases did you receive for the $500? If you could point me in the right direction like a POC or URL, it would be greatly appreciated.
